No fewer than six Tottenham players and staff have been taken ill with Covid - just 15 days before they are due to host West Ham in a Carabao Cup quarter final at White Hart Lane.

Those affected at the north London club are said to include several first team players, while the rest of the squad faces an anxious wait after taking PCR tests on Tuesday morning in the wake of the outbreak.

It has already been suggested that Spurs will appeal to the Premier League to have this weekend's away game against Brighton & Hove Albion postponed - while their Europa Conference League tie on Thursday is also under threat.

Although there are precedents for the Premier League postponing fixtures due to Covid outbreaks - Aston Villa and Manchester had matches rescheduled as a result last season - it would be the first occasion this season in which it would be necessary.

Following the trip to the Amex Stadium, Antonio Conte's side are scheduled to face Leicester City (a) and Liverpool (h) before hosting West Ham United at White Hart Lane on Wednesday, 22 December.

West Ham also face a hectic schedule ahead of the tie, with no hope of any postponements or respite.

Dinamo Zagreb visit London this week for United's final Europa League Group H tie, although David Moyes is likely to rest most of his first XI with the club having already qualified for the next phase.

Following that West Ham face Burnley (away, 12 December), Arsenal (away, 15 December) and Norwich City (home, 18 December) before facing Tottenham on the 22nd.
