Keiber Lamadrid: everything you need to know about West Ham’s new signing

It’s not a secret that when the announcement of 22-year-old Venezuelan Keiber Lamadrid was made, many had never heard of him.

Initially, I was also unfamiliar with him, but research helps us understand what we can potentially expect from the attacker, and why we may have looked to sign him.

The promising winger joined the Hammers on 22 January, on loan, with the hopes to make the move permanent in the future. He transferred from Venezuelan first division side Deportivo La Guaira, having impressed in recent years.

The winger should add much needed attacking depth to West Ham and may potentially mirror the role of Luis Guilherme, who left to join Sporting CP this January.

Lamadrid has scored eight goals and assisted several for the South American side in 2025. He also earned his first cap for Venezuela, coming on as a substitute in a friendly against Canada.

Lamadrid’s strengths lie in his dribbling ability, with several of his goals coming from impressive runs. He also is not afraid to shoot, as many highlight reels show ambitious strikes from all sorts of ranges.

The skilful winger has many of the tools to become a great player, but it will be interesting to see if he suits English football and can make that huge leap to the Premier League.

Lamadrid’s role for West Ham may be minimal to start with, as Nuno Espirito Santo has acknowledged that the young winger may need time to settle in before integrating with the first team.

This suggests we may see the South American amongst first team training sessions, but not in the matchday squad yet. However, it is important to note that the loan signing was made with the agreement that Lamadrid would be considered for the first team, as well as the Under 21s.

Lamadrid is poised to become the first Venezuelan footballer to represent the Hammers and is also the third South American signing made by West Ham in the current January transfer window, with the Irons previously purchasing attackers Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe.

So, what can we expect from Keiber Lamadrid? I personally believe that it may be a few weeks before we see Lamadrid playing in the Premier League for the Hammers, especially considering the electric form that Crysencio Summerville is currently in, and the large jump from the Liga FUTVE Apertura to the English Premier League.

But, when we do see him play, I expect high energy and a desire to try ambitious attempts. But overall, I think he is one to keep an eye on for the future, if we do decide to sign him permanently.
