Re: West Ham Utd v Bayer Leverkusen: match thread (2nd leg)

We need to be absolutely at it and into them from the off. We need to drag this game down into the mud, they'll be on a high from their league win and we need to bring them down to earth with a bump, preferably on their head and by kicking seven shades of **** out of them. Forget playing fancy footb...

Re: VAR 2023/24

The Bournemouth Man United game looks like another absolute shambles, I'm no conspiracy theorist but that's bordering on corruption. Complete robbery.

And unlike the prem again they got it right.

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

I think the point I'm making is that it's not about turning them into wonder players - it's about working out a way to get a certain level of consistency from them. Having said that, Downes is having a good season at Saints and Fornals seems to have settled into Betis well. But....we are West Ham -...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

There are two questions to answer here.... 'Do we have a poor squad?' and 'Is David Moyes capable of managing a squad?' I've said over and over again, that my biggest concern with Moyes is his ability to get performances out of fringe players. Cornet, Johnson, Ings and Phillips are all very experie...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

He wouldn't have been praised is the issue. He doesn't anymore. It's like at the beginning of the game he's getting pelters for starting Ward-Prowse alongside Soucek, then no recognition for moving Paqueta deeper when things weren't working. I've seen online that "Tottenham were there for the ...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

What Moyes did seem to do well last night was make tactical changes with the same personnel on the pitch. I'm not sure whether Paqueta was supposed to play deep from the start but it looked to me that, after about 10 minutes when we were struggling to contain Spurs' inverted full backs, Paqueta drop...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

Yeah, poor Ings must be well pissed off earning £125k a week, being the 2nd highest paid player in the squad but not automatically selected for the first 11. Its almost like Moyes expects him to earn his money or something.

Straight back in to the side for me with JWP to drop out. We need to manage a couple of players after full 90 mins last night.

Re: West Ham Utd v Tottenham: match thread

Glad there was no VAR intervention in the game. Athough if Antonio had scored that 1 on 1, I'm certain that VAR would have disallowed it due to Paqueta's challenge on the edge of our box (and then they'd have probably scored from the free kick knowing our luck)

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

Given the impact of the subs at the weekend I thought it was probably the right call to not change things last night unless forced to do so. Our bench is weak and nobody was playing badly. Even with tired legs our first 11 is significantly better than our subs. We'll never know if a substitution mig...

Re: Newcastle Utd v West Ham Utd - Match Thread

Does the attacking team gain an advantage from a player being in an offside position when the ball is played by their team? If so, then it's a foul and an indirect free kick.

It's not that hard.

Half the Geordies (on one of their forums I just had a quick look at) don't think it was a penalty. Tells you everything you need to know.

Re: ✍ Welcome, Kalvin Phillips

Just had a look at a Geordie forum because I was interested in their opinion on the penalty decision (50/50 on the 2nd one which, considering, bias suggests it 100% wasn't one) and they pretty unanimously think Phillips was awful and him coming on was a turning point in the game.

Re: Newcastle Utd v West Ham Utd - Match Thread

This would all have been accurate if it was simply a penalty given by the ref, but he didn't do that. He was called to the monitor and then persuaded himself that he made a clear and obvious error. For me it is as bad as Areola 'conceding a penalty' whilst being elbowed in the face. It only makes s...

Re: Newcastle Utd v West Ham Utd - Match Thread

I've got no idea why there is such controversy around this. It should never be given as a penalty. Phillips is in possession of the ball and is attempting to play it, Gordon make an attempt to tackle him (a bad one) misses the ball and obstructs Phillips from playing the ball. It's a foul. By Gordon...

If anything Gordon fouls Phillips. That's a joke.

How can someone with the ball foul someone without it?
