Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024

10 players to improve us requires a budget of £250m-£300m.

If the budget is about 50%-60% of that, so is the sensible level of recruitment, imo.

As Shakespeare once scribed in Act 3, Scene 1 of Henry V, "it's **** or bust now lads, let's 'ave 'em".

Dortmund 2 up.

The 5xCL places and 8xEuropean may not be dead yet but it's in need of some life support.

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

"We are going for 20-23 year olds" "He'a an attacking manager, who wants to dominate possession and control the ball" It's cliche-tastic, isn't it? It reeks of herding without any thought of how X manager is going to be any different to the very many others that all spout the sam...

Re: West Ham Utd v Bayer Leverkusen: match thread (2nd leg)

I think the only chance we have is if we keep a clean sheet. I’m not sure we are capable of that. We've scored in almost all the games we've played against English Champions league clubs this year , and have bagged 2s or 3s in more than half the games :shocker: Kept a couple of clean sheets too.

He has been training since Friday, be interesting to see if he is training tomorrow based on this news. That 91st minute goal on Thursday was a proper kick in the nads. At 0-1, with Alvarez and Bowen to come on in the second half of the tie - something the manager would have known/suspected - the a...

Re: Derek Underwood Dies

Sad news A great bowler one of the best,Used to go and watch Kent back in the days with Deadly,Knott,Luckhurst all playing in a great side. Had a quick chat with him once as we passed the changing rooms and he was hanging out the window having a fag  Strong team in that era iirc - Woolmer, De...

I think we've been in it often enough now, and at an advanced level, for players to assume we're a 'european' side and it's possibly just an off year.

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

Not bringing in extra players in January will likely mean that we won't play in Europe again. There's no positive in that scenario. Not so sure about that. Smaller squad needed, easier workload with more preparation and recuperation time coupled with less travel. It arguably enables a smaller more ...

It usually takes this club no more than 12-18 months for that to unwind unfavourably.

Everton really should have scored at least one by now. Plenty of decent crosses/chances.

On signings: We're likely going to see a complete change in signings. They're likely getting (much) younger but also more on the risky side. He obviously didn't give us names, but spoke about them in the majority being more in the 20 to 23yrs age bracket going forward. There are an increasingly lar...

Re: Postecoglou: are the cracks beginning to show? [non WHU]

They were discussing Spurs' roasting on Talksport this morning and this got raised: No, interestingly he (Postecoglou) really doesn’t do any tactical work, what he does is, every single training drill from Monday to Friday is drawn up to represent the way that he wants to play," he said on The ...

Still hard to fathom why City sold him. FFP must be the only reasonable explanation.
His stats at Man City were really mediocre - I certainly wasn't sold on him because of that.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024

With players like Cresswell, Johnson, Ogbonna, Ings, Cornet, Phillips (Downes) all at the head of the queue for the exit for one reason or another, it probably requires an acceptance of imperfections in others that are a better age, have better fitness and are in/close to the first team. Concentrate...

Re: ✍️ Welcome Lucas Paquetá - Our Brazilian Magnifico

He was considered a next level signing. Came to us as a stepping stone to a bigger club. Only way to keep players like that happy is to continue to add similar standard players to the squad. He’s seen that most of his current teammates are not on his wavelength, and Man City are keen on signing him...
