Re: West Ham United v Aston Villa: match thread (17.03.24)

The balls cannons off his thigh, doesn't it? Yep, pops up off of his thigh. It is possible that his left arm (with the bandage) swung round and clipped the ball... but it is very hard to tell and VAR were not given the opportunity to review it. As others have said, it could have been a great spot b...

Alternatively JWP failed to convert a glorious chance late in the second half, and we had to settle for a draw.
That was a great block to be fair. But still a missed chance.

Re: West Ham United v Aston Villa: match thread (17.03.24)

I might be old but I'm not deaf Whether it actually was a foul on the keeper is another issue I'd get the ears and eyes checked Oldie...watch the clips. The ref doesn't even put his whistle to his mouth until the clearance hits Kudus. Then he instantly puts the whistle to his mouth and blows as it ...

Re: West Ham United v Aston Villa: match thread (17.03.24)

I'm still not having that Ace, and it isn't just because I hate Martinez. I have somehow wasted half my day looking at this. Driving me mad. They are both at it, they both start at far post, then move toward the near post and there really isn't enough either way to give a foul because neither are im...

Re: West Ham United v Aston Villa: match thread (17.03.24)

Correct, there was no move to give a foul on the keeper, not even a hint of him flinching or thinking of giving a foul on the keeper. He didn't even begin to put his whistle to his lips until the ball hit Kudus and then he blew instantly. It looks far more likely that he thought there was a Kudus ha...

Re: West Ham United v Aston Villa: match thread (17.03.24)

Last post on this I promise but one thing the video on the previous page definitely shows is that it didn't hit either of his hands It hits his forearm / wrist Rich, quite clearly for me. Not sure what you are missing. It isn't deliberate and it is very unlucky, but for me (and most) it clearly hit...

Re: West Ham United v Aston Villa: match thread (17.03.24)

From Sky, today. Very interesting, kinda how I see it too. Soucek was guilty of a couple of offences, deep down I do think that one should have been disallowed. Antonio was harsh / bad luck but they are the rules. The Kudus one the ref simply blew too early so we will never know. They seemed very s...

Re: West Ham United v Aston Villa: match thread (17.03.24)

I simply disagree, watch it at quarter speed and watch the spin of the ball, in my humble opinion it's past his right hand before it changes direction… It would have to be visually past his hand from that angle. It hits his wrist and then changes direction. Again, the fact we are even going over th...

Re: West Ham United v Aston Villa: match thread (17.03.24)

Regardless of the was it a foul by Antonio or not debate, the ref blows for handball, that is clear as day to me. He has no issue with the jostle between Antonio and Martinez but instantly and swiftly blows his whistle after Kudus controls the ball. He may well have seen a handball. He may have got ...

Re: West Ham United v Aston Villa: match thread (17.03.24)

That is a crazy argument. Essentially saying we should just let the keeper have a clean catch from every corner. You have to challenge, and keepers do more than their fair share of pushing and playacting. Especially this keeper. They were both at it, neither of them got near the ball, the keeper the...

Re: West Ham United v Aston Villa: match thread (17.03.24)

So... to be clear Ace... in your words, (and pictures) it is fine for the keeper to have his arms blocking Antonio, but as soon as Antonio does it back, that is a foul. The ref doesn't blow until Kudus controls it. I think he blows for a possible handball. Either way, he is supposed to let the play ...

Re: VAR 2023/24

Goal line tech is good.
VAR for offside is good (as long as it is only measured by players boots).
And I'd say it is good for serious foul play or really obvious errors made by referees.

Re: VAR 2023/24

Use it for offside, and offside alone. Bin the rest. The laws arent clear enough. I'd say this but with a caveat that it should also be used for anything 'clear and obvious' that has been missed on field. But that has to be something really blatant that can be pulled up almost instantly. I'm sure t...

Essentially yes, spot on. The mismanagement of our squad at board and management level has been terrible in the past few seasons.
Yet here we are, 7th in the table and in the quarter final of the Europa League... been in bigger messes over the years.

Re: VAR 2023/24

Still haven't seen a shot of contact between ball and arm. This is key for me. There wasn't one, because the post is in the way. It was one of many referee mistakes in the game not to give the handball (add that to blowing too early when Kudus scored and not showing a second yellow for kicking the ...

Re: West Ham United v Aston Villa: match thread (17.03.24)

If anyone thinks Antonio's handball is clear, I'd like to know which of his arms they think it hits? The ball changes direction at some point but it definitely looks like it has gone past his right arm when this happens. It quite clearly hits the front of his right arm / wrist as he is moving to pr...

Re: West Ham United v Aston Villa: match thread (17.03.24)

I haven't seen enough angles but why does the media keep referring to it as a Soucek disallowed goal? Surely it was Bowen's? Mavropanos sends it looping up and towards goal to start with, Soucek then has a swing and a miss at it and it bounces up off of his own hip and he seemingly uses his forearm...
