Re: Gold and Sullivan ???
Now The Times is sticking it to Karen and the Daves ... It looks like the press pack have united in their views about the board. This piece by Matt Dickinson, from yesterday's Times really sticks the knife in, with forensic detail. One of his key points is that their poisonous attitudes are (like so...

Re: West Bromwich Albion v West Ham United match thread
You play two league games in the space of six days: one at home, the next away. You win your home game, draw the away game. Four points. You score two, keep two clean sheets. Outside a tiny number of mega-rich clubs, there isn't a manager of any team in any league in any country who wouldn't take th...

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017
It's not even that individually they're poor players per se, but it seems incontrovertible at this juncture that the mix is all wrong. Can anyone remember the last time we dominated midfield in more than a one-off game? It probably stretches back to the Downing/Song diamond. Round pegs in round hol...

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017
No it's not. That is not a good set of CDM for a next level side. So name the player who is available, affordable and would definitely be a step up from them ... And while you're at it, give me a better choice of CDMs who played together at this club in the past 10-15 years ... I think we're as wel...

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2017
We could be in the situation where we're asking Declan Rice to play a number of games in midfield and Martinez a number of games up front. I remember the last time we relied on kids to step straight into the premier league - they went on to become world class players but it didn't stop us having a ...

Re: Andy Carroll
Aside from actually getting on the field - which I admit I never thought would happen on a regular basis, so it's hat-eating time about that - the two massive changes in Carroll's play this season are ... 1. He's making the runs into the box that will get him the rebounds and tap-ins, so he's giving...

Re: The 2016 summer transfer thread -Deadline Day
I have to say i'm totally underwhelmed by this news. As much i would like a right back so antonio never plays there again, it seems very short term thinking as we'll need another right back in a year and i would be seriously worried about his pace at that age against the likes of Sterling. Will we ...

Re: The 2016 summer transfer thread -Deadline Day
Would like to think we're beyond that type of signing now. What, beyond getting someone who's won a World Cup, two European Championships, two Champions Leagues, La Liga, Copa del Rey, etc? We've won f***-all since 1980. yes, we have a great stadium and, IMHO, the best squad we've had in a very lon...

Re: The 2016 summer transfer thread
To all those who have already decided Calleri is rubbish, can I just point out that a certain Carlos Tevez arrived in August 2006, didn't start a Premier league game till January 2007 and didn't score till March. That still gave him time to become a legend by the end of the season ... and cost us £2...

Re: West Ham Utd vs Astra Giurgiu match thread
The Europa League matters to clubs in other leagues where the domestic competitions either don't generate money, or, as in Spain and Germany, divvy it up so that only a couple of clubs actually get serious incomes. The Premier League generates so much more money than any other and divided it up so e...

Re: The 2016 summer transfer thread
We can't blame EVERYTHING on the board, but there is quite a bit we can blame on them! Yes because the board has done a rubbish job, haven't they ... Apart from spending their own money to save a club that was all-but bankrupt ... And getting a new 60,000-seat stadium on a deal so sweet it's got pe...

Re: The 2016 summer transfer thread
On his day he is unplayable. However, for any team looking to break into the top 6 I would argue that there has to be another way to play. Playing to A.C's strengths means putting it on his head but that wont cut it for all games. The key question is whether Carroll is happy to share the load. From...

Re: A £20 million plus striker: The summer transfer thread
Agree with Rars on people getting caught up with price tags instead of players. It's true in the case of other teams as well. Lots of slagging off of Everton...but looking at the team being built and forgetting the price tags....they are building a nicely balanced side. Lots more work for them to d...

Re: A £20 million plus striker: The summer transfer thread
Bubbles I've posted about this before , the age band in which players will earn a starting spot in a PL team is narrowing, especially in positions where errors cost a club so obviously . 26-31 for CB's . maybe if they stay really fit they may go to 33 . They're staring older though . Oxford cost us...

[/b]There is often very little link between the amount of money you spend (or don't spend in the case of a free transfer) and the quality of player you get.[/b] Seriously? Very little link? Just did a quick Wikipedia of the most expensive signings in history: Bale, Ronaldo, Higuain, Suarez, Neymar....

Re: A £20 million plus striker: The summer transfer thread
Feghouli, Nordveit, Tore are very good acquisitions who would have cost £25m upwards. Nordveit looked excellent last night, I thought. Just the player we need to sit in front of the defence and provide cover if the full-backs and more attacking midfielders have gone bombing on up the pitch. Strong ...
