Re: ⚽ West Ham United v Newcastle United: Match thread (2/11)

Cresswell post match:
'We've got to be at it from the off and be on the front foot. From our point of view, it wasn't good enough. We need to put it right, have a good week and look forward to the next game."

How inspiring. Rinse and repeat.

The Colchester player who tried the panenka must be relieved.

Re: England Cricket Summer 2019 ODI World Cup and Ashes

Pope has to come in, averages 60 in FC cricket which is incredible. Bat him in his preferred position of 6 and watch him fly. Foakes as a specialist WK for Bairstow. Sibley or Crawley to open.

Not important in the grand scheme of things but I can't seem to find the full list of members that we used to have, has it gone?

Re: England Cricket Summer 2019 ODI World Cup and Ashes

We’ve gone way too far in terms of focus and mindset towards white ball and the WC. We need to get some focus and clarity back into the way we develop players (batters) to play Test Cricket. I’m almost at a point where thinking a drubbing in this last Test may do more long term benefits than a win....

Re: England Cricket Summer 2019 ODI World Cup and Ashes

We put a lot of our eggs in the World Cup basket. We clearly don't have the depth to accommodate both the Ashes and WC. Exactly this. The ECB brains trust have focused on white ball cricket and winning the World Cup really since Bayliss took over. There was barely a whimper in the press when we got...

He won't be starting, went off with an injury against Crawley the other night. Their regular RB Aarons came on and looked very good, can see why he's been sought after by the big teams.

Re: Newport state of mind - roughest places we've played

Shocked I'm the first to nominate Gillingham. Remember coming out of the station and the place actually ****ing stank, for the duration of the walk to the ground and back afterwards... Hideous place. No clock in the stadium either (at least when I went 20 years ago) Perhaps clocks hadn't been inven...

On a similar note you can find this little number on both Waitrose and Londis. Which is rather marvellous. A perfect tropical IPA.

Re: England Cricket Summer 2019 ODI World Cup and Ashes

The convicts have already finished Ballance’s test career once, there is no point asking them to do it again. I would bring in Hildreth as a short term solution for 18 months and hope in the meantime someone from CC raps strongly on the door to replace him - as there isn’t anyone currently that is....

Why not, pick the players in form and he is. Averaging 54 in CC. Northeast maybe, he averages similar. Ballance is the better fit at three though.

I'd probably take Sibley to open, Ballance back in at 3, Root to 4. Even that doesn't fill me with enormous confidence. Slim pickings out there.

Re: England Cricket Summer 2019 ODI World Cup and Ashes

Have to admit I'm getting a little bored with all this criticism of Root for 'overbowling' Archer. The reason his pace was down from Lord's might be because, you know, he's bowling to the conditions? Pace sometimes work, at other grounds you take the pace off to get more swing. Archer knows what he'...
