Re: Masters predictions

Just dug through old threads for the rules Points are scored for amount players are under par. Minus 5 points for any player who misses the cut. 5 bonus points for getting the winning score correct I assume it's minus points if your player finishes above par (soul can you confirm) 5 bonus points to...

Re: Masters predictions

Thanks for sorting mumbles, been a bit short on time this year. I can sort for the Open if the interest is there.

Re: Five Countries

Off the top of my head:

Canada
Japan
Argentina (or anywhere in South America really)
Cambodia (for Angkor Wat)
Norway

I've always tried to keep my number of countries visited greater than my age. Was ahead until a few years ago so need to up my game!

Re: Non-League Day

How was the game? I get over to watch Hastings as often as I can. We lost yet we needed to win. Quite tight at the top of the league. Pretty close, a penalty and a goalkeeping howler put Horsham 2 up, then we hung on a bit 2nd half after Hastings got a goal back. Hornchurch will win the league, Cha...

Horsham vs Hastings for me. Not supporting the team who play in claret and blue this time though!

Dulwich are very well supported at that level. 3,500 when I went there with Horsham earlier this season.

Really wish he'd broken his duck tonight, think there will be a huge amount of goodwill when it happens. An unsung hero in this team. Maybe in the final...

Re: Books you are reading

Mayflies by Andrew O'Hagan. Really magnificent novel, best I've read in a long time. Told in two halves, riotous and hilarious in the first, then much more contemplative and moving in the second. A life-affirming tale of male friendship.

Re: England Cricket 2024

Focusing on the positives: Crawley finally looks to have settled into the opener role. Hartley and Bashir have been great, shown a lot of pluck and courage, excellent signs for the future. Badly missed Brook, that middle order will look a whole lot more secure on his return. 700 for Jimmy. We'll nev...

Bend it like Repka wrote: Sat Mar 09, 2024 8:15 amGuess what, you can't totally reinvent a game that has been played for over a century, some things are boring and traditional because they work
Or in England's case, as per 1 win in 17 before the Stokes and McCullum era, they don't.

Stokes is an unstoppable force. Not bowled for nearly a year and then serves up a worldie like that with his first ball.

Bairstow and Stokes averaging 22 and 21 for the series shows you the middle order is where our problems have been.

Re: West Ham United v Brentford : match thread

"What a deeply unpleasant fanbase West Ham have. It’s funny, most times when you meet a WHU fan they’re half alright but when you go to the ground you actually see the pond life that follows them." - LostBee This really made me laugh for some reason. Sounds like from other comments their a...

Re: Books you are reading

Re American Crime fiction - No one has mentioned Ed Mcbain yet? His 87th precinct stories are a cracking read - and what's more the books are a bit like a TV series - they have a villain that pops up now and then in various books (the deaf man), the detectives lives change dramatically during the s...

Re: Books you are reading

Can anyone recommend any good crime fiction? Either US/American or in translation? It's a genre i've neglected over the years but am delving into it a little. I've read one Ian Rankin and didnt like that at all. I'm something of a connoisseur of American crime fiction, Elmore Leonard has already be...

Re: England Cricket 2024

Of course the dressing room will deny they listened to any outside noise, but Root, Foakes and Robinson all played steady sensible cricket, rather than trying to blast us out of trouble. A proper dose of good old fashioned test cricket has meant we now have a real chance of levelling the series. Vi...

Not really a problem, he's already done his job and kickstarted the innings.
