Re: Where will we finish?

Liam wrote: Sun Apr 14, 2024 8:07 pm In what world is anyone expecting 3 points next Sunday?!
Not expecting but these 'predictions' are on the whole based on league positions. Others may wish to make their own predictions based on other factors.

Re: Where will we finish?

Updated after today - Fixtures and suggested points based on results that league position might expect. Obviously it won’t pan out exactly like that but it gives an idea of how current points plus difficulty of fixtures combine. Suggests that 8th is best we can expect and that is likely to require i...

Re: Where will we finish?

It's unlikely we'll finish above 8th if we don't win today.
After Thursday we are either out of Europa or it becomes top priority.

Re: Where will we finish?

I’ve added Newcastle’s fixtures and suggested points based on results that league position might expect. Obviously it won’t pan out exactly like that but it gives an idea of how current points plus difficulty of fixtures combine. I can’t see us getting any higher than 8th and that requires winning o...

Re: Bayer Leverkusen v West Ham Utd Europa QF 1st leg match thread

Why did we sell both Fornals & Benrahma in January?
Both played key roles in Conference win last season and have left us with very limited attacking options.
One or both would have come on last night and played the second leg.

Repeat of Den Haag 1976.
4.0 down at half time in first leg but still get through.

Re: Where will we finish?

Is European qualification 7th or 8th it’s a bit confusing this year! 6th as it currently stands. 7th if England get the expected extra Champions League place. 8th if we get that and Man Utd (assuming they stay top 7) or Man City win the FA Cup. Maybe even 9th if one or more English teams win a Euro...

Derby away last season. Stayed over. Next morning got train to Matlock Bath & walk along river before coming home.

Man City away last season I think. Midweek. Stayed over. Came back on train via Edale, enjoying walk in Peak District.

Re: Away games, do some split football from a weekend away and enjoy the places you visit?

Yes very much so. This season twice stayed two nights in Liverpool and once in Newcastle with my wife. Last season a week in Europe with three nights in Prague. Four nights booked for Dublin should we get to the final there. With more time, more disposable funds and more interest in seeing places I ...

Re: West Ham Utd v Tottenham: match thread

A fair result, the team gave their all. And there's not been too many seasons when we've taken 4 points off Spurs. I think 7th place is beyond us now though. Those home draws against Burnley and Bournemouth have done the damage IMO. Only chance of europe again next season is to win the europa. Tall...

I assume they wanted him replaced with a forward, not Philipps.

Good game. Fair result.

Re: West Ham Utd v Tottenham: match thread

I think this is the least excited or even nervous I've ever been about West Ham vs Spurs. I'm just resigned to the inevitable VAR intervention to rob us of a winner/gift something to them at this point. It's even taking the enjoyment out of games when we're not even playing. Plus even if VAR don't ...

Part of the problem with VAR is that no one knows how the laws of the game should be interpreted.

Re: Newcastle Utd v West Ham Utd - Match Thread

Just seen the penalty - gash decision purely given to keep Newcastle in the game. It feels to me that there is an element of manipulation to make things a bit more interesting a bit more dramatic for the viewers at home. What I don't understand with VAR is that you basically have two referees now, ...

Re: Newcastle Utd v West Ham Utd - Match Thread

Cheating & VAR are ruining the game but on the whole these were out of our control. What changed the game was replacing Antonio with Phillips. I was talking to a Newcastle fan at breakfast in the hotel yesterday who said the first 75 minutes was the worst they’d played all season and it was only...

Re: Newcastle Utd v West Ham Utd - Match Thread

Spoke to a couple of Newcastle fans walking back through the city. They said the same as every West Ham fan I spoke to. West Ham would have won that if Moyes hadn’t taken Antonio off. We were well on top until then.

Re: UEFA Europa League 2023-24

Anyone thinking of going by ferry to Dublin should we make the final – It may be premature but we bought refundable ferry tickets from Holyhead to Dublin yesterday. Some of the ferries the day before and after the final are already fully booked – probably those loveable Scousers assuming they’ll be ...

Newcastle are issuing some ‘dud’ tickets at away games. When your entry turns red, fans must go to the away ticket office to confirm ID and collect a duplicate.
That's a bit unfair if you don't arrive early then miss the kick off.

Re: Away Tickets Thread - The European Scramble......continues

That suggests Palace will go to about 42 points based on similar allocation to Fulham which was 59% of max.
