Re: West Ham Utd v Bayer Leverkusen: match thread (2nd leg)
With respect Crouchie, isn't any European journey worth it? We are West Ham after all and not one of the top 6/7 or mega rich, fashionable clubs. Any European journey is welcome (IMO). Where did we become that entitled? I never said I didn't enjoy it, or wouldn't want us to be I it next season. My ...

Re: West Ham Utd v Bayer Leverkusen: match thread (2nd leg)
Unfortunately, even if we get back into the Conference League it just isn't the same as Europa League in my view
we won it last year, of course, but i never got into it the way i have for Europa League two years ago and this year
i can image being in Champions League knockout phases would top the lot

Re: Cup Games Vs League Games
Europa knockout games have been my favourite
I just don't have the same fervour for the FA Cup any more
Personally, i can imagine being in knockout stages of Champions League would be absolutely brilliant

Re: West Ham Utd v Bayer Leverkusen: match thread (2nd leg)
Still gutted today I loved winning the Conference League, but the Europa League just has a different aura with its history and glamour Losing in the semi-final remains one of the biggest disappointments in 35+ years supporting. Last night was not quite as bad as that, but with no English clubs left ...

Re: West Ham Utd v Bayer Leverkusen: match thread (2nd leg)
No doubt: a magnificent first half, and I felt cheated not to beat them. Serious question: what would have happened if Antonio used his obvious physical strength to stand up, keep upright whenever he could, and avoided going to ground whenever possible? Would we benefit from keeping the ball alive?...

Re: West Ham Utd v Bayer Leverkusen: match thread (2nd leg)
First half qe were superb and Lverkusen were all over th3 shop. Some ofbtheir defending was pure kamikaze. Unfortunately they changed things around sefond half and improved significantly. They stopped giving the ball away and showed why they are a very effective side as we didn't create much despite...

Re: What did you watch last night?
Anyone else watch For All Mankind on Apple TV? It is an alternative reality drama based on the premise that Soviets got to the moon first and space exploration continued at a hectic pace from that point on.For exqample, in series 3 it is 1995 and people have been to Mars. Very good IMHO. great if yo...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024
I guess if they went down it could be different. But if they go down and MGW is available for a 'cut-price' deal, he will have all the 'top 6' clubs after him They may not be prepared to pay £70m, but i expect they would all have no issues stumping up £40m and high wages to get a young, English pla...

Re: Declan Rice
This week Rice is overrated, Saka's not nailed on to start on the right for England, Cole Palmer is the future of the English game and Haaland is a flat track bully. Give it a couple of weeks and it'll be someone else under the spotlight for better or worse. I think it's fair to say that Arsenal ha...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024
Personally I don't think whether we are in Europe or not (unless Champions League) will have much impact on our ability to attract players Conference League and Europa League is unlikely ti be a sway for the best players we can aim for, and then for the players in the level below that playing in Pre...

Re: West Ham Utd v Bayer Leverkusen: match thread (2nd leg)
Whilst I think it is unlikely we really need to approach this with some hope At the end of the day we only have to win by two goals in 90 minutes to be in it. Leverkusen are good but they are not sone kind of mystic behemoth. We have beat3n better teams than them by two clear goals We don't even nee...

Re: Declan Rice
Didn't have his best game last night but far from the worst player. Unfortunately for him he has set such high standards for himself that he is under immense scrutiny every game. The expectations seem to be he is going to be able to be peerless every single game, despite playing more minutes than pr...

we will almost certainly need to come 7th now for European travails next season, and 6th for Europa League

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024
Yep. Days are long gone when the 'manager' ran the show from top to bottom In a handful of cases the manager becomes so successful that they then begin to dominate I.e Pep and Klopp, but even at those clubs there are multiple senior people respomsible for various elements, including transfer activit...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!
This is why arguing about possession %s can be distracting. Where you have the ball and what you do with it (threatening or passive) is much more important. It's why 50%+ possession might do my head in if it was tippy tappy Potter at Brighton style. I don't have a major problem with @30% possession...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!
In the end, the only stats that matter are real goals for and against, wins, draws, losses, and league positions. they are the only stats that matter in regards to how we are performing vs competitors in a league system however, other stats that reflect a 'style of play' might matter to some people...

Re: Bayer Leverkusen v West Ham Utd Europa QF 1st leg match thread
We are not out of the tie, IMHO
We don't need to win by 3 goals in 90 minutes
a two goal win in 90 mins takes it to extra time and then anything can happen, including going to penalties
on any given day, with a fair slice of luck, we can beat any team 2-0 or 3-1

Re: Bayer Leverkusen v West Ham Utd Europa QF 1st leg match thread
Yes Brighton got smashed 4-0 at the Olympico, but the media will stroke off De Zerbi all day long for trying to play football in “the right way” whilst sucking in the modern-day entitled fan into thinking there’s only one way to play a game of football. Great game management from RDZ there. Would a...
