Re: Fabian 'The General' Balbuena

Got absolutely slated for this during the summer. I'm going to go against the grain here and voice my doubts over him. While capable, I don't understand the level of hero worship and plaudits he receives. While i think he's a perfectly good squad buy at the rumored £4m, I think he is slow and easily...

Re: Stuart Pearce: the board blocked my return (Talksport)

What's Kevin Nolan up to these days? I've always found the clamor for Kevin Nolan to return in some sort of coaching or management role strange to say the least. A good leader and captain by all accounts with an eye for a goal, but a fairly limited footballer in my opinion. Having spent the vast ma...

Re: ⚽ West Ham United v Bournemouth: Match thread (01/01)

Admittedly it’s difficult to judge the impact of the new manager after 1 game against a particularly poor Bournemouth team. But I was encouraged by our discipline, shape and organisation without the ball, it looked like the team had a game plan and played to those instructions. I think it overly sim...

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/nov/29/eddie-howe-bournemouth-manager-interview-piano?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other Given the rumours about Howe. I found this article an interesting insight in to his personality and his managerial approach. Personally I’ve always been impressed by the guy. Will ...

Re: Manuel Pellegrini West Ham United’s 17th manager

Couple of interesting statistics from the sky sports article shared earlier https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/11869365/west-hams-woe-under-manuel-pellegrini-whats-gone-wrong West Ham rank rock bottom for high turnovers ending in a shot - the number of times that they have won possession ...

Re: ⚽ Burnley FC v West Ham United: Match thread (09/11)

Will also be interesting to see where he plays Snodgrass and Fornals. Will he keep Snodgrass in the middle of the park where we need his aggression and non-stop running to help Noble & Rice. Particularly against a strong and physical Burnley side. Or will he push Snodgrass wide like he has done in t...

Re: ⚽ Burnley FC v West Ham United: Match thread (09/11)

No Yarmolenko is a strange one.

Been our biggest goal threat in recent weeks.

Plus his height would have come in useful when defending Burnley’s set pieces. Which is their biggest threat.

Re: Andre Gomes injury (non WHU) -Please do not post links

The bloke is a top player but he does have it in him to employ some snide tackles and elbows. I just hope that refs are on to him now... It also seems to have been completely ignored that he clearly dived in the same game in an attempt to win a penalty. There was no way the 'contact' was sufficient...

Re: ⚽ West Ham United v Newcastle United: Match thread (2/11)

Defensively I worry when we get a corner, we make little of them, and don't retain the ball which gets turned over and we end up defending our own penalty box. This has happened for years, and its a significant concern that we don't have the tactical nowse to benefit from our own corners. The Saint...

Re: ⚽ West Ham United v Newcastle United: Match thread (2/11)

The reason players tend to have good games against us is that we make no attempt to exploit their weaknesses This, x100s over. I know it's a bit of a cliche but you have to earn the right to play in the premier league and that right starts in the central midfield battle every week. It is simply not...

Watch next time we get a throw in. You'll see more movement on a Subbuteo pitch. Don't get me started on the throw-ins. Yes, the movement is terrible but i'm also convinced that one of the biggest downsides of the athletics bowl is the length of time it takes the ball-boys to return the ball to the...

Re: ⚽ West Ham United v Sheffield United: Match thread (26/10)

There's a very old fashioned line of thinking that three passes is the optimum number to create a goalscoring opportunity - first talked about by Charles Reep in the 50s and subsequently furthered by Charles Hughes into the 90s. I actually stumbled across the Charles Reep name while i was trying to...

Re: ⚽ West Ham United v Sheffield United: Match thread (26/10)

I'm sure i'm not the first person to make these comments in this thread and others, but a few things i have noticed in our play in recent weeks include. 1. Far to slow in moving the ball from back to front - it gives the opposition time to get back in position and we don't have the guile and creativ...

Re: Roberto Jimenez

As others have rightly pointed out, as long as he's wearing the claret and blue he will have my full support. However, having watched him in some of our friendlies, against both Newport and Oxford in the cup and during the warm-ups i find some of his movements, handling and decision making as a goal...

Diadee Samassekou has just joined Hoffenheim for £13m. https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/news/diadie-samassekou-who-is-hoffenheim-s-new-malian-midfielder-6255 I mentioned this guy earlier in the transfer window, along with a couple of others (Amadou Haidara & Frank Kessie) as the high energy ...

Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread

Depending on what budget we have left, a few names which might be worth exploring for the high energy, more defensively minded midfielder could include : Frank Kessie Milan signed Angel Correra from Athletico Madrid earlier in the week for £50m. Given they are already under pressure from FFP, rumour...

Re: Who Is The Most Recent 'World Class' Englishman?

I've never quite got the Joe Cole was a number 10 argument. Absolutely loved watching him when he came through the ranks, all clever flicks and tricks, but I don't think he ever had the footballing brain of a true, traditional number 10. Someone who could play incisive through-balls and really hurt ...

The Striker Search : Roles & Attributes

With the sale of Arnautovic and the very public pursuit of Gomez, naturally there has been a lot discussion about strikers and who we should look to sign to lead the line next season. I wanted to start this thread not so much to talk about the names of the strikers we have been linked with, but rath...

Re: West Ham's worst ever forward.

Watching a front two of Mike Newell and Steve Jones some time around 1997 was a sole destroying experience. I remember watching us play a dreadful Nottingham Forest team, who would go on to be relegated, at home on a freezing cold day some time around christmas and it still gives me nightmares 20+ y...

Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread

It has just been announced that Milan have been kicked out of next seasons Europa League due to breaching FFP. Wonder if our supposed interest in Kessie might be rekindled given they will need to balance the books. Or if in Pellegrini and the boards mind the signing of Fornals renders his role obsol...
