Re: The French corner [non WHU]
I'm off to France for Easter to visit my elderly aunt who lives in the suburbs of Paris. Creteil are the nearest team to her but they don't seem to be playing again for a fortnight. I had hoped to watch a game whilst I was there but I'm struggling to find anything. It got me thinking. How come there...

Re: Boxing thread
So far we are potentially looking at... Dmitrii Bivol 22(11)-0 v Artur Beterbiev 20(20)-0 Bivol has been Champ for 7 years & won the title with a 1st round KO, defended it with a 12th round KO then his next NINE defences have all gone the distance. He can crack but he'd rather time you coming i...

Re: We're Number Two!
Is it just us that do this or do all clubs do it? Doesn't that mean they have to pay more tax or are there other things I should be taking into consideration? Cheers Non-League teams certainly used to downplay attendance figures for the very reason you allude to. With so many season ticket holders ...

Re: Top Flight Clubs Fail to Agree EFL Funding Deal
It's all well and good filtering PL riches further down the pyramid but the net result will be lower league teams paying even more to players in wages. It's the very thing that got most of them in the mire in the first place. Charlton can grizzle all they want, but aren't they owned by total shyster...

Re: Boxing thread
I definitely get that. All of it.... BUT..... If AJ wins in a more impressive manner than Fury did then the rehabilitation is complete & AJ is seen as the most viable candidate should Fury beat Usyk. The build up to Fury v AJ would just be showing their respective bouts against Ngannou over &am...

Re: Boxing thread
He fought a good fight, but did anyone agree with the one judge who gave Egginton a draw on Friday? Thought Barrou won fair and square. I like Eggington. He's as game as a honey badger and rarely takes an easy fight. The lad's got some very decent wins on his CV. I worry about his future health, th...

Re: Sudden disappearances into obscurity
Club legend at Strasbourg. He had 5 solid years as a player there, getting them back to the first division and settling at this level. He studied management while playing, and after his playing career, he became General Manager of the club in 2001. They won one French Cup and one League Cup during ...

Re: Boxing thread
That might come across a little cynical but if AJ wins, he proves very little. If Ngannou wins (which he probably won't), will he really get the opportunity to fight Usyk? I do think it's a publicity stunt to get younger UFC/MMA fans into boxing. 27-3 boxer fighting an opponent who is 0-1. Forgive m...

Re: ✍ Welcome Maxwel Cornet
He has clearly been affected by his injury (as has Zouma). Is there any scope to turn him into a full-back, like we did with Faubert after he was crocked? My gut feeling is "no".

He came from obscurity in the first place! One of the very worst players I have seen in a West Ham shirt.

He was absolutely knackered. He's only 35 and has made over 750 senior appearances.westham, eggyandchips wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 10:51 pm Alexis Sanchez

Didn't realise that, TBH.WestHamLyallStyle wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 12:57 pm This name often crops up in such threads...the Metz president has questioned his mental health and I think he had personal issues to contend with. He was certainly phenomenal for one season.
A decent player with baggage? Sounds right up Redknapp's street, TBH!

Re: Sudden disappearances into obscurity
Seb Schemmel springs to mind. Went from Hammer of the Year to bit-part squad member, then left us. Played only a handful of games for Portsmouth and LeHavre and retired from playing before he was 30.

No, been meaning to. Just put it on my amazon list. Did you read The Fight by Norman Mailer? It's about Ali v Foreman. I used to read it over & over as a kid. Amazing book. No, I'll check it out. Oddly enough, I recently re-read Looking for a Fight by David Matthews and thought I should be read...

Re: Boxing thread
It isn't Duilio Loi, is it? He avenged all three career defeats but "only" 5 of his 8 draws.
