Re: Where will we finish?

I could see this being the year we finish above Man Utd but also miss out on Europe - mainly becauase of how bad they are. 8th, I reckon.

Re: West Ham Utd v Bayer Leverkusen: match thread (2nd leg)

We were great first half last night but really should have got the 2nd goal as Leverkusen were, to put it mildly, all over the shop. I have never seen a team give the ball away so much. Some of their playing out from the back was suicidal! Yep, that was our chance. Reminded me a bit of the Bruno v ...

Re: West Ham Utd v Bayer Leverkusen: match thread (2nd leg)

That’s demonstrably untrue. Andrich for Wirtz is no upgrade. Adli for Grimaldo is no upgrade. Boniface for Schick no upgrade (some may argue this) I’m talking about the ability to make a sub before half time and two changes at half time to switch things up. Andrich and Aldi both came on in the last...

Re: West Ham Utd v Bayer Leverkusen: match thread (2nd leg)

If you watch that and don’t conclude that the difference was that one team had the ability to bring equivalent (better even) players on and the other couldn’t despite their players having played 45 minutes at a completely unsustainable level…..then I think you need to have a bit of a sit down. As h...

Re: Declan Rice

Paqueta is getting a bit of this treatment at the moment. You're not wrong. Guilty as charged, to be fair (me, not him - investigation ongoing). I think the difference between him and Rice though is that part of the stick Paqueta is getting relates to his behaviour on the pitch, whereas Rice has ha...

Re: West Ham Utd v Bayer Leverkusen: match thread (2nd leg)

Those betting on Paolo Di Canio to score the only goal at Old Trafford in the 2001 FA Cup tie got 76/1... those are the best odds I can recall involving a WHUFC fixture. I got 100/1 in a bookies on the morning of the game. What a day that was. I remember trying to place the double on Di Canio first...

Re: Declan Rice

This week Rice is overrated, Saka's not nailed on to start on the right for England, Cole Palmer is the future of the English game and Haaland is a flat track bully. Give it a couple of weeks and it'll be someone else under the spotlight for better or worse. I think it's fair to say that Arsenal hav...

Re: Things that are gone that you miss

A world without Breakfast TV and 24 hour "news" channels. It adds nothing positive and fuels all manner of negative mindsets. A world where people weren't filming, photographing and recording everything. It triggers the vanity, narcissism and Stasi informant in too many people. This is a ...

Re: Things that are gone that you miss

Knowing interesting stuff that other people didn't or talking to people who knew interesting stuff that you didn't. I love Wikipedia and the like, but I miss the days when people knew stuff because they'd taken the time to become knowledgeable, rather than using a quick google search to get the gene...

if jarrod's front and centre for the cameras and moyes says there's a good chance he'll feature, bet your house on him being out. Re: West Ham Utd v Bayer Leverkusen: match thread (2nd leg)

Would be surprised to see Cornet in the starting line up tomorrow. For whatever reason, be it lingering fitness issues, long-term impact of his previous injury, or the manager just thinking he's rubbish, he's just at the bottom of the pecking order. It took a very worrying injury to a 19 year old ma...

Re: West Ham Utd v Bayer Leverkusen: match thread (2nd leg)

I'm actually really looking forward to the first 5-10 mins of this game, when I imagine we'll go at them, the atmosphere will be good, and who knows, we might score. What I'm not looking forward to, is the prospect of Leverkusen scoring early, the tie being killed off, and spending 80+ minutes calcu...

Re: ✍️ Welcome Lucas Paquetá - Our Brazilian Magnifico

Is there something else he needs to be doing over the next two or three weeks? The booking on Thursday was ridiculous, but the one today almost looked like a man trying to get suspended. They were the actions of a man not playing for the team and only thinking about his own ego. Terrific player on h...

Re: ✍️ Welcome Lucas Paquetá - Our Brazilian Magnifico

He is in the same category as Alvarez i think, in that he needs that edge and bite to his game to be at his best. Unfortunately that means silly yellow cards quite often as he cant tackle and picks stupid little arguments I appreciate the edge and the bite when he's doing it for the team. The foul ...

Re: Bayer Leverkusen v West Ham Utd Europa QF 1st leg match thread

The first goal next Thursday either kills the tie stone dead or sets up a proper game. No choice but to go for it early on. Live and die by the sword. I had no issues with how we set up last night, but next week we have to go for it, and if Leverkusen win because they're just better than us then fai...

Re: Bayer Leverkusen v West Ham Utd Europa QF 1st leg match thread

They cut through us pretty quickly on the rare occasions that we had men committed forward and lost the ball, so I've no complaints with the containment tactics. It very nearly paid off. The second goal is a hammer blow in terms of the tie and a lot of the negative reaction to Moyes on social media ...

Re: ✍️ Welcome Lucas Paquetá - Our Brazilian Magnifico

Would love to see the stats on the number of times he's got the ball under pressure in his own half, rolled the ball under his foot to work a bit of space while trying to hold players off, lost it, then got annoyed and gone in too hard trying to win the ball back. It's one of his signature moves. Th...

Re: Bayer Leverkusen v West Ham Utd Europa QF 1st leg match thread

Given our absences, you could make a case for Johnson starting in one of three or four different positions, even though there's every chance he won't start at all. Almost certain to be the first player off the bench if he doesn't though.
