Sounds to me like the student was being deliberately provocative.
A teenager attempting to provoke a reaction? Shocked.

As per the link above, the judges make clear the issue in this case is his behaviour towards the student, not his beliefs.

Re: The Jury System

You'd have to remove the 'beyond reasonable doubt' requirement first, as a majority guilty verdict with several jurors disagreeing couldn't be said to be beyond reasonable doubt. I think this would be misinterpreting the beyond reasonable doubt aspect of it - this refers to the personal opinion of ...

Re: The Jury System

My default would be guilty, prove it otherwise. If this is serious I don't know where to start with it... For any offence at the Magistrates Court in this jurisdiction you have the choice in most situations to elect a trial by Magistrates or to go to Crown and have a trial by jury. There are positi...

Re: Liverpool statement [non WHU]

I feel equally cheered by unwelcome developments for both LFC and THFC, but, even with that set out, I do think a line got crossed this weekend. In short, its simply not enough to come out, after the match, and hold up hands and say sorry for what arose. Don't get me wrong, I don't think that there...

Re: Russell Brand

I think that's exactly what they are trying to do. You don't become a KC through incompetence. People need to look past the fact she's "Tory Scum" and realise that there is more to this than suppression of "freedom of speech". Which by the way is a quaint and utopian concept. Th...

Re: Russell Brand

Again, whilst I don't doubt that you are correct in all that you say (and not that I disagree with your general sentiment here - because I do), the solution to this issue cannot and should not be "I know, let's go to the Daily Mail and lead a public witch hunt against the accused". Especi...

Re: Cricket: The Ashes (Summer 2023)

In terms of this series - I'm with Stokes - hindsight never loses. There's always things to be done differently every time and people are simply magnifying them because England are doing things different. I revert to Mr Stokes on this one: https://twitter.com/mufaddal_vohra/status/168628752502614016...

I think it's ok considering conditions and the fact we were put into bad - there was some good bowling and some bad batting mixed in. A few wickets tonight and we'll be happy.

Re: Cricket: The Ashes (Summer 2023)

Thought that was a bit of a snorter from Starc but Stokes looked edgy the whole time. Need another partnership now.

EDIT: Having seen the replay, to be fair to Stokes that was a humdinger of a ball from Starc. Not really sure what he could have done.

Not always keen on Mo but he's hit some big runs there while having roughly 80% of a fit groin. Hopefully nurse him through the rest.

Re: Cricket: The Ashes (Summer 2023)

I honestly think only in England could you score 600 runs, take 15 Ozzie wickets after 3 days, see 2 days rained out, and it be the fault of the captain they didn't win.

Re: Cricket: The Ashes (Summer 2023)

Oh it's all right for the batters to run a bye to the wicket keepers ( to great cheers from the crowd, understandably) but not all right for the wicket keepers to stump a batter when he strolls out of his ground. PS judging by his aim today stumping Bairstow was a complete fluke I'm pretty on the f...

Re: Cricket: The Ashes (Summer 2023)

I preferred it when we won 1 test in 17 tbh... Zac's had a bit of a luck today with some inside edges but he (as usual) has played some gorgeous shots and is still there (highly unusual). Moeen's done his job and Root's been Root. Duckett got out to a good ball. Still got some big quick hitters to c...
