Re: Everybody’s second team

I have heard it said of us, but I remember it being said of QPR too, in whose case it was a bit derogatory, implying they never upset anyone on or off the pitch. I've never quite understood this notion, really. I get having a favourite "big" team if your local teams are a bit rubbish, but having a s...

Re: ⚽ Burnley FC v West Ham United: Match thread (09/11)

Not much left to say about the match really. Burnley played physically and maybe on another day the ref or VAR could have ruled out two of their goals for pushing and shoving just as it did their later 'goal' incident. But we weren't good enough anywhere on the pitch to really deserve anything. I ha...

Re: ⚽ Burnley FC v West Ham United: Match thread (09/11)

Don't see us even getting a point, we seem to really have an attitude problem when playing any side that isn't one of the top 6. Not sure who is to blame for that I think the theory is that certain players raise their game when they are in the spotlight. And the accompanying explanation is somethin...

Re: Weekend fixtures: 8-10 November

This season, he has scored more league goals than Mo Salah and the same amount as Mane and Kane. But does he win as many pens? I wasn't sure what to make of our results this season, but this match put it all into context. We beat a poor, relegation-bound team. Or should that be, a poor relegation-b...

Well, it worked for me and I didn't have to log in, but after answering 10% of the survey it declared:

Re: Andre Gomes injury (non WHU) -Please do not post links

You reminded me of Willie Young... Not sure subtle is a word to be used for those days :D On Paul Allen, of course - but wasn't that considered outrageous at the time? And led to the red card rule. Followed by the poor "tackles" on Maradona in the mid-80s leading to outlawing tackles from behind am...

Re: Andre Gomes injury (non WHU) -Please do not post links

Its what they call a "professional" foul in the game. A yellow card, which incidentally is what the ref had in his hands. I remember a time when Professional Fouls were red card offences. Then they downgraded it to only be fouls on players through on goal and running directly at the goal - regardle...

At least they won't be suckered in by current performances on the pitch.

Well played, Mr Maldeni.

Re: Top 5 Dutch players from the Premiership (non WHU)

Durham didn't include Bergkamp at all in his top 5, basing this on he didn't win back to back titles, didn't win a Champions League medal, never scored more than 20 goals in a season etc etc. From memory, Durhams top 5 were... 4) Virgil van Dijk... Surely trolling! Bergkamp is one of the most impor...

Just to make the point that football existed prior to the Premiership - Here are my top five Dutch players from the 70s & 80s who played in England; Frans Thijssen - Ipswich Arnold Muhren – Ipswich Johnny Metgod – Notts Forest Jan Lohman -Watford and can not leave out the great Marco Boogers - WHU ...

Re: Top 5 Dutch players from the Premiership (non WHU)

Bah, e17 beat me to it - minute-for-minute he surely had the biggest impact. NO mention of Joroen(sp) Boere yet though? I'm finding the question a little open-ended, especially in view of Durham's reasoning for omitting Bergkamp. So I'm going to opine that Gullit and Davids were two of the best Dutc...

Re: Manuel Pellegrini West Ham United’s 17th manager

The only thing I find more more baffling than some of Peller's team selections and tactics are last summer's transfers. Don't Pelegrini & Husillos have any idea of how much money will or will not be available? Do they just think they can beat the club transfer record over and over? I'm struggling to...

Re: Manuel Pellegrini West Ham United’s 17th manager

The news I'm reading in Australia this evening sources C&H seemingly reporting the board aren't happy with Pellegrini's results nor transfers, particularly Fornals, Roberto and Ajeti.
Also says sacking him isn't an option.

Re: Andre Gomes injury (non WHU) -Please do not post links

Spurs appealing the red card. What possible grounds? While I don't necessarily agree that the on-field card should reflect the injury - it should reflect the offence (a player can be injured from a genuine accident, and an opposition team could play up an injury to get a player dismissed for the co...
