Re: Other Games - Gameweek 23

Leeds v Newcastle tomorrow looks a belter. Always liked those loveable Tykes… I like Leeds as a city, like Bielsa, think Leeds the team and their playing style are far preferable to the usual promotion candidates as a presence in the league but...their actual fans are the worst of the worst and no-...

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

You can’t rule out the possibility that Pep’s been asked nicely to put out a few complimentary quotes by the overlords who own that network of clubs in order to beef up a sale. Must confess that was my first thought, because watching those clips you know Pep wouldn’t touch him with yours.

Other Games - Gameweek 23

Got to hope for a Watford win here. Norwich are going down regardless. So should they win, it’s wasted points if you’re of the opinion it would be a Good Thing if Newcastle went down.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

I know Pep’s bigged him up and arguably he understands football more than I do, but...I thought that New York bloke looked gash in his hype reels.

Dennis has had a good year and hard to look past him, but I do like Joao Pedro at Watford
He’s dead good. You know someone is decent when you can actually identify them amongst the anonymous blob of Watford signings.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

Part of the business. Spurs also took the young gem Alfie Devine and Leeds the young hotshot Joe Gelhardt, both from Wigan, when the Latics were in Administration last season. If that’s what we’d be doing I’ll be all for it. I guess my suspicion is that unlike Spurs, we’d probably be using them in ...

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

The thing with signing someone like Buchanan is, if his club wasn't in dire straits would we even be looking at him? Seems a wrongheaded way of going about recruitment. It is how we tend to do business in that area though. Fredericks, Antonee Robinson, Byram – if there's a deal going or a contractua...

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

All I can say as a fan is that within about 15 games of watching Anderson/Haller I was thinking is there really a long term PL in there. Anderson had 8 goals and 2 assists in his first 20 games. EDIT – and for that matter, didn't Haller start with a hiss and a roar too? Think you may be misremember...

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

Jarrod Bowen was on his way to Palace until we did something we initially didn't want to do and upped our bid to £22m. The club felt it was a gamble at that price but they admired Bowen for a while and didn't want to miss out on the right player. I'm still astounded we got Bowen. He was an incredib...

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

Nat Phillips is a decent defender and I believe he is an upgrade on Dawson and Diop, but he isn't the one to push us on. Spending confidently and well on another defender, like we did with Zouma, is imperative. I always place a huge – maybe even outsized – weight on what a player's current supporte...

Re: ⚽ Manchester Utd vs West Ham Utd: match thread

Feels like one of the season-defining fixtures.

The pairing of our loss to Leeds + Spurs gaining 5 points in injury time in their previous two outings has created a horrendous swing the past fortnight. Lose this six pointer and it will feel a bit like the wind is out of our sails.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

The flaw with always using Harry Kane as an example of a striker who looked pony but then wasn't is that for 99% of other strikers who look pony, they continue to be pony.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

Not passing judgement on which approach is the correct one, but interesting to note Conte this week expressed the diametrically opposite view to Moyes. Conte is desperate to add to his squad this month – Spurs have not yet made a signing – and he suggested that even lower-quality recruits would do. ...

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

How much quality is there on Chelsea’s loanees list once you get past the 8th best one? If the loan limit is 8 starting in November there’s going to have to be a fire sale in the summer. If you assume Gallagher, Broja and Gilmour are all comfortably among the best 8, who’s hovering past the likely s...

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

Bubbles’ point the other day was a good one - are they really so blind that they don’t see helping Newcastle stay up this season is at least as threatening to their hegemony as us getting into the top 4? Anything we do is precarious and likely to be fleeting, but once Newcastle get established there...

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

Short term gratification might be your thing but I hope for something more lasting. Honestly, the next time anyone wonders about why you'd bother with a striker who isn't quite as good as your main striker, how a second striker would even get any pitch time with Antonio being the main man, or that ...

Apparently Bowen has a release clause or £20m IF that's true Bowen will be off in the Summer again another reason why we need to strengthen and show ambition
No-one would ever put in a release clause smaller than the fee that was paid for them. We can probably scotch that one right there.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

Zouma was the best bit of business so far and Vlasic has the potential to be a great player. Areola hasnt put a foot wrong when his played. Kral on the other hand was the one that Moyes can hold his hand up too. But that's one in four that hasn't worked out which isn't that bad really. There's no m...

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

McTominay and Fred have been fine this season. Still that club's weakest area but their individual performances have improved since last year.
