Re: Sam's ear

I’ve long thought Moyes was Sam with humility.

I have been tempted to start a thread “Sam and Moyes - what’s the difference?” to discuss their respective merits, but I think it would move away from an actual debate about their similarities and differences and into mud slinging.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024

If Moyes stays, I can’t see Aguerd being here. That’s fine, he’s one of few in our team we could afford to lose who’d also command a decent fee. He’s a rare player we’d happily sell who’s also worth something. We’re not going to make much of anything off Cresswell, Antonio, Ings, Cornet, Ogbonna, Jo...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024

What do need in the starting line up? Striker and at least one centre back seem pretty immediate. Right back must be next. Then you’re looking at squad players. We’ll get the usual “why buy squad players, but starters and make the current lot squad players” as if money is endless and squad players a...

Re: England -v- Brazil & then -v- Belgium

I generally loves Poles, great country, so was happy whey won. My attitude with Scotland, Ireland, Wales and Norn Ireland is generally to be happy if they do well but also enjoy when they fail. Except Norn Ireland, they’ve been plucky for so long and really should never qualify, so I really want the...

Re: England -v- Brazil (C4 from 1900)

Has nothing to do with football being played on paper, he literally has played there before and has the skillset to do it. He’s no real threat out wide for England against good sides He’s gonna be better centrally against good teams? His club and international managers value him more out wide, you ...

Re: England -v- Brazil (C4 from 1900)

Paquetá would have been booked for that first foul in a competitive game.

The Foden in the middle thing feels very ‘football isn’t played on paper’ to me. Lovely idea in an ideal world, but not put into real life

UpneyHammer wrote: Sun Mar 24, 2024 9:07 am For me, you either play Foden centrally, or don’t play him at all.

He is totally wasted out wide for England.
Then you leave out Bellingham and play someone else wide left who isn’t as good as Foden.

Re: England -v- Brazil (C4 from 1900)

Don't think Luke Shaw should be considered as an option right now. Has a season to forget. Currently out again with another muscle injury during a year, when he never picked up any form. So left back position could become an issue, like at so many teams at international-football. Squads this time w...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024

Wolves have money issues, but a midfielder worthy of starting for Brazil last night.

I’d hope they were watching him. João Gomes. Although I would bet good money the manager still likes Raphinha.

Re: England -v- Brazil (C4 from 1900)

Foden doesn’t play serious football as a central midfielder, 10 or otherwise, very often at club level. So, no, I’m not seeing why it’s worth banging that drum, especially when arguably the most in-form young player in world football is an England player playing as a 10. Bellingham has the role. I’d...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024

Be surprised if Moyes sticks with what he’s got at centre back. They’ve been pretty bad this year. Elsewhere, we are undoubtedly short on the wings, a starting striker, and there will be questions over the full backs, although both could just see backup replaced by backup. I hope they don’t kick the...

Re: Ben Johnson

He has the tools in his locker to be a top modern day full back... It would be proper West Ham to let this kid go and he then finds himself playing consistent football. Give him the money. Coach him properly and give him a run of games. Alternatively, agree the new deal on the proviso that he goes ...

Re: Ben White and England [non WHU]

The broadsheets don't just make stuff up, as it impacts on their reputation if it turns out to be rubbish Same with individual journalists. Credibility goes out the window I suspect the broadsheets have had to retract things before. They may not make things up, but they’ll choose sources they know ...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024

It’s probably going to be difficult to predict what we need because we don’t have any idea what youth players may be pushed into the squad. We could use at least one back-up winger. I’d prefer two. Have any of the young lads shown enough to be that second one? Kodua? Marshall? Do we need anyone in p...

Re: Ben Johnson

He is a mediocre Spector. Can't see much of his defending abilities, and based on his minutes, neither can Moyes. He’s a very good defender. Proved that in the Europa run first time around. He just doesn’t have the other side. Which is why he doesn’t get minutes. He’s probably a PL starter in a tea...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024

Is that the Dembele who was playing reserves football at Celtic when he was like 13? Toney is too expensive and on too many radars above us. I think I’d like the club to stay away from big money signings and big wages. Let’s just say a Grealish or Sterling is half interested in joining us. They’re g...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

One thing I do think that causes him a lot of problems is perception of him. And, weirdly, this is something I would criticise his supporters in the media for, as much as anything. There’s this idea that a philosophy is a new thing and only a thing for trendy attacking coaches. But Moyes has a philo...
