Re: West Ham Utd V Burnley: match thread - 10.03.24

I think if we got into the position that Burnley did for their first goal, their player would not have done what Phillips did and avoided contact. I think he would have pulled he player back or down and taken a yellow card. Their second goal yesterday and Freiburg's goal on Thursday indicate to me t...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

I've been to many West Ham games over the years where we have lost and the opposition goalkeeper was man of the match.

I can't ever remember thinking the opposition were lucky to win, just praised the goalkeeping performance that sealed it.

It's why i'm delighted when such a result is in our favour.

Re: ✍ Welcome Tomas Soucek

Like most goals we have conceded lately a result of collective errors. I don't see why anybody would think Thomas's role was bigger than anybody else's. It all started with a weak clearance from Zouma, lump it into the crowd and danger over. We make an error (normally handing over possession) it see...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

Speaking for myself, I'd prefer to see winning football. How we get there, not so important. But as I've been reminded on several occasions in this thread, that's just me. Me too. There is a lot of dross played in the PL presented as exciting football. Spurs fans I know are as angry about the soft ...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

The fact that so many on here truly believe it’s the only way we can play actually irritates me more than Moyes doing it. What is the only way we are playing? Goals are being shared around by players. We are scoring goals. we don't lose games by scoring goals, we lose games by giving away poor goal...

Re: ✍️ Welcome Michail Antonio

those incidents in the 70th and 79th minutes were better than any of our other attacking players managed. Yes Bowen scored, but let's be honest that was a real stroke of luck Totally agree. Those two bits of play were very good. Bowen would have slid in for that cross and might have made something ...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

We apparently have two world class players who contributed to three of their four goals with poor play, but is doesn't seem to be relevant. We had two good spells of play and conceded a terrible goal within minutes. I think we played a good team on the up and we weren't really good enough on the day...

Re: Other matches ~ w/e 2nd - 3rd Sept

I find some of the criticism of Southgate strange. Why shouldn't he pick players like Henderson, Maguire and Phillips as they have all been an integral part of his squad and teams for some time. He doesn't have the luxury of seeing them in training every day to see if their levels have dropped becau...

Re: Other matches ~ w/e 2nd - 3rd Sept

FWIW i don't rate Phillips much, but he does provide the right balance with Rice Sometimes in a team you need partnerships that work and balance over individuals. I think the Phillips and Rice partnership works well when the game is more competitive, when we need to do more in footballing terms to ...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

The thing I remember about Pelligini was one point in six games at home before he got sacked. The last two of those defeats were amongst the worst home defeats I have ever seen. We went a goal up against Arsenal, who couldn't win a game to save their lives and then capitulated and then basically los...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

I've supported the club for nearly 60 years and had a season ticket for nearly 25 years. Most of that time has been a huge disappointment in terms of success. Having really enjoyed the two seasons before last season and then finally winning a trophy last season I am prepared to give our manager, who...

Re: ✍ Tomas Soucek

If all eleven players put in 7/10 performances we will win more games than we lose. It's too many players putting 5 or 6/10 performances that hurt us last year and Tomas was one of many.

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

Only time I've ever really thought we didn't do this was when we had Lingard, teams were scared of his counter attack so didn't push up as much I agree when he was here and we attacked it seemed something was going to happen, same with Payet. Too often we don't get the second goal and ultimately it...

Re: Declan Rice

He is not a West Ham player anymore so anything he says about his new club is totally irrelevant to me.

Hopefully once the season starts we can just forget about him and move on.

Re: ✍ Tomas Soucek

I don't think it's going to happen, but there is a world where we restructure our midfield in totality and he contributes more than he did last season. Although many, including yourself, seem to be happy with his contribution last season so suppose it just depends what you want from your Hammers. I...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

I thought the final last week summed our season. I thought we were atrocious in the first half because of our total inability to hold on to the ball or pass it to a team-mate with a simple pass. Apart from the disallowed goal they never worried us and I thought getting to half time 0-0 was critical....

Re: Next season - are you worried?

I always thought this season was about transition. I had us mid-table having drawn far too many games where we couldn't get the right formation up front and bedding in of new players. At the half-way stage the big disappointment was the number of insipid defeats. I always thought we would get better...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

If we had Pep, we'd be pressing hard and fast to get the ball back the moment we lost it, and we'd attack in numbers, not sitting our CM on the 30 yard line and isolating 1 striker. Not relying on crossing first, with barely anyone in box. Pep would have this team 5th-11th this season imo. I don't ...

Re: The new kits thread

I actually really like the tangerine kit, but I have always appreciated the odd outrageous kit. When I was a kid I loved our kits because they were so different to the red, white and blue most teams wore. My nan wanted to treat me to a football kit and I ended up with a blackpool kit because I loved...
