Re: Michail Antonio: club legend?

Further to my previous input, surely Legend has to be extra special and rare. Most who qualify for Legendary status have a stand named after them or a statue erected or some other memorial ediface. Is it likely we will have the Antonio Stand or Dicanio Statue or Mark Noble Gate etc etc. Cult Heros a...

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

Ward Prowse?? Does he play CH? CF or LB? No. Then why are we discussing him? Hardly someone we need.

Also Hlozek is doing well in the Czech league I believe. 6 goals and 12 assists according to our resident experts in 19 games!! And only 19.

Re: ⚽ Manchester Utd vs West Ham Utd: match thread

Surprise, Surprise another defeat. I think we need to keep a little perspective here. For the first time in donkey's years we go into games with a good chance of upsetting the apple cart. I am no longer filled with a forboding of imminent doom. Sure I get dissapointed, frustrated etc. but it shows ...

Re: Michail Antonio: club legend?

Well that's pretty simple to determine, if you click on the links I've added in my two previous posts all are referred to as "legend" by their local media, fans or club. I would dare to suggest they're rather better qualified to comment than you or I. Of course, as I say its a personal op...

Re: Michail Antonio: club legend?

So by your rationale... Matt Le Tissier, not a Southampton legend . Alan Shearer, not a Newcastle legend . Robin Friday, not a Reading legend , even. It seems the fans of those three clubs (the first three that sprung to mind, there are of course many more) don't share your view. I have no idea, bu...

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

I don't think Moyes is all that fussed about signing anybody at the moment I don't agree that it is about not being 'fussed' He has repeatedly said he wants to add quality to the squad. However, I believe he is at pains not to undermine confidence within the squad looking by desperate and also bein...

Re: Michail Antonio: club legend?

Out of interest if we don’t win anything for another 30 years (not inconceivable) would that mean we wouldn’t have had any legends play for us in 70+ years? For me Noble has to be a legend for his longevity and number of appearances, he’s been the heart of our team for nigh on 15 years. Unfortunate...

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

So we are looking at the Turkish league to find a 'right player', seriously? Remember hot prospect Golkan Tore? I'm somewhat bemused about the confidence behind Moyes 'right player' policy. Didn't work in the summer and so far it's not working now, potentially to the detriment of the club and playe...

Re: Which is the odd one out?

That'd be the likes of The Green Man and (KUMB's) The Earl of Wakefield, which I didn't mention, but all the above were viable business' until the club moved up the road. I'm not sure they were all 'viable' UtJ and, as I say, many were struggling even with our support. In addition, I am sure (as so...

Re: Michail Antonio: club legend?

Not for me. Cult Hero, absolutely. Club Icon? Probably. But he's not on that top level. Legends have stands named after them. I doubt we are ever going to see a Michail Antonio stand I fully agree. For me you have to win something to be considered a Legend. Cult Hero or Icon yes. Even Noble I would...

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

Agree, but if your main target is not available then you’ve got to have a plan b. Otherwise we’d find it difficult signing anyone. Plan b might not be any better than our first choice 11, but if they are a step up from the usual suspects on the bench it’s got to be an option. Just my way at looking...

To be fair, many of those were on their last legs anyhow and probably wouldnt have survived. Indeed, I thought a couple had already gone (?).

Legends for me are your Billy Bonds, Bobby Moores and Trevor Brookings of this world. Does Michail belong in that category? No from me. He's more a cult hero than legend imo.
Whole heartedly agree.

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Leeds Utd: match thread

If we are being brutally honest the score line flattered us. We should’ve lost a lot more comfortably than we did. They missed 2 good chances before half time, had a goal ruled out for offside, Raphinha hit the bar/post from a freekick. And that’s just off the top of my head! We were extremely luck...

Re: Issa Diop

My problem with Diop isn't just this game though. He has been struggling all season and (IMHO) getting steadily worse. For those of us at the game it was obvious his confidence was totally shot. Nothing against the lad who I am sure is a nice bloke with maybe the talent to succeed somewhere and find...

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

As a bit of perspective, apart from Newcastle and Aston Villa (none of whom they have bought I would want here), has any other club strengthened significantly so far this window or bought a player we should have attempted to purchase?

Re: Lukasz Fabianski signs

I agree that some are being a little harsh on Fabianski. I think it is true (?) that he is 2nd or 3rd in saves made this season, which is both good and worrying if he has to make that many! Moyes does have a problem though in keeping Areola happy. He seems a fine keeper, good enough for the Premiers...

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Leeds Utd: match thread

Are we deluding ourselves just a bit with our expectations? When the only cavalry you can call on to get a result and consolidate a top 4 spot consists of Masuaku, Yarmalenko and Perkins it adds a real dollop of perspective to our position.

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Leeds Utd: match thread

Sorry, but Coufal being meh, Cresswell poor and Diop being a major issue for all goals is wrong. First, poor from Cresswell, the next bit was them beating us to the next ball and a nice finish. Second. Cresswell awful and Coufal playing everyone onside while putting his hand up for offside. Third. ...
