Re: Lincoln City vs West Ham United: match thread (Carabao Cup)
No way Ings doesn’t start this game Why do you say that? If the plan is already for Ings to start in the European games, this seems a perfect opportunity to start Mubama in our fourth priority competition. Considering our only other centre forwards are in their thirties and have had the odd injury,...

Re: Migrants crossing the Channel
Immigrants by nature are a different race automatically. Considering most humans are tribal by instinct it's kind of to be expected long term inhabitants fear/dislike a new group entering their "territory". If a person is living in a town that hasn't changed for 20 years, and you tell the...

Re: Migrants crossing the Channel
There is no UK MSM network willing and capable of hosting a balanced, non-biased, non-hysterical, sensible debate about controlled immigration. Nobody sensible would appear on it to state the case for controlled as they know they’d be called ‘far right’ and ‘racist’ immediately post-programme. Free...

Re: The BBC
I don't necessarily think it is racism, and it is perfectly understandable as people in Ukraine are more 'identifiable' to most people here - plus of course the media coverage and narrative of Putin the bogeyman and Russian flexing their power But isn't that racism? Not as in hating people of a cer...

Re: The BBC
Fiona Bruce next. This seems unfair, and indicates just how difficult "impartiality" is. To me it's clear she's just trying to say "this is what people on the other side of the story are saying", I didn't see the show but I assume Stanley wasn't getting much defence, so she's tr...

Would Areola become our fourth ever world cup winner if France win?

Re: WC of WH Players: QF1 - MARK NOBLE V PHIL PARKES
It's not about best though. It's about favourites... and it's perfectly natural that a persons favourite would be someone they've actually seen play. Personally I don't think it makes sense for a persons favourite to be a player they've never seen and know only by reputation. I'd be surprised if an...

Re: WC of WH Players: Group 31
I think you're a bit harsh on Skippy though. Maybe it's claret and blue specs, but I remember him being pretty good for us https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwqZy47fO0E I voted for him purely for this goal. I was a little kid, I had the 97/98 season review on vhs and I watched it every weekend. It ha...

I feel strongly this game will be a draw, everyone get all dramatic, but then we'll beat USA and Wales.

Re: World Cup Nostalgia
True CT, the Argentine Junta were no angels - there was an interesting editorial in The Spectator that tried to defend Qatar …. simply by using the ‘well, the Argentines and Russians were bad and therefore it makes Qatar OK’ argument. The common denominator in all of it is the whiter than white 😉 F...

Re: World Cup Nostalgia
No offence, but it's a little funny to see people showing moral outrage over Qatar getting misty eyed over Argentina in '78... Just a shame none of us can remember they true good old days, Rome in '34! I think like a lot of people, I always think back to my first, France '98. It's what really got me...

Re: Match #3: Group A - Senegal v Netherlands (21/11/22, 4pm)
Even I'm feeling genuinely gutted about Mane being injured. A Mane led Senegal felt like the only opportunity of an African side really going far in this tournament. They do have other good players, but I feel this is going to be a mental blow as well.

Re: Beer banned
Two of the main conditions of Qatar getting the World Cup were that it had to be in the summer, and they had to serve beer. Honestly, I don't have a problem with them not serving beer, it's part of their culture. By selling it in the corporate areas it's quite comical how open they are about their I...

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Leicester City: match thread
Well, I guess you can't tell much from brief MOTD highlights, but from those, I thought we looked absolute ****ing crap We weren't, we played a lot better than last week. Scamacca's movement was really bad but overall we controlled possession and were moving the ball quite nicely, but that lack of ...

If I remember rightly he was competing for the golden boot for much of that season.steveyrockstar wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 2:11 pm John Hartson in 97/98 was immense. The last time we had a 20 goal-a-season striker in the top flight.

Re: WC of WH Players: Group 10
Something about those PONY years clips brings the warm fuzzies. I'm usually a sucker for the silky, creative attacking midfielder and Berkovic jumped form the list at first, but on reflection I never quite 'loved' him the way say I did Joe Cole, Bishy, Yossi or Lanzini, dunno why he was obviously t...

Re: 26 Englishmen: Your World Cup Squad
For me Toney is clear number two at centre forward, a definite squad pick. With James injured I'd definitely be taking Alexander-Arnold, he's a great option for the 3-4-3 or if we're losing. With full backs dropping like flies, maybe Cresswell's wondering how far down the list he is? I reckon Dan Bu...
