Re: Star Trek all series appreciation thread

I think the problem for the franchise in terms of scoring a blockbuster film take is that they've never delivered a really epic film - Wrath of Khan and Voyoage Home were decent films, but always a bit kitschy at the core and with comedy bits that don't really land; and there have been a lot that re...

Re: Educate me about.....

To my mind, absolute peak stones is Beggars Banquet , but that run starting from there and going through Let it bleed, Get yer ya-yas out & Sticky fingers is most of their really great material. Lots of people say the next album, Exile on Main Street is another gem, but it's never done much for ...

Mementum was with them way before Antonio went off - we've shown virtually nothing this half - can't give the opponents 80% possession and not expect to give chances away

Re: Superhero ( & sci-fi / other relevant) films

Caught up on Gen V over the last few days - pretty much what you'd expect from The Boys universe - maybe not quite as bloody, but still pretty graphic - and overall pretty good.

Re: West Ham Utd V Burnley: match thread - 10.03.24

Aguerd's challenge before Fofana's was pathetic. That's not what happened though - Fofana was running through and as he approached Aguerd, he tried to flick the ball past him to the player overlapping; Aguerd reacts and sticks his leg out to intercept the ball, Fofana gets a lucky rebound and then ...

Re: West Ham Utd V Burnley: match thread - 10.03.24

Ings was absolutely superb when he came on. I thought he was very unlucky to not have more opportunities of late and took his chance brilliantly today. Harsh disallowed goal, superb finish and a great shot off the bar. If nothing else from this terrible result, at least it looks like ings is gettin...

Re: SC Freiburg -v- West Ham - EL16 match thread - 07.03.24

We were in total control of the game for most of the 90 minutes. What would have been described as a professional away performance in Europe until Alvarez’s individual blunder with the woeful pass. As has been far too common this season an individual error means a defeat. Yes Paqueta, Mavro, Bowen ...

Re: The next gig you're going to

Last Night at The Dome in Tufnell Park - first time there, and really liked it as a venue, to see: Airforce -never heard of before, thought the band were OK, but hated the screamy vocalist Raven - great drummer, but the band were like a cartoon parody of an old-school 70s rock band Alcatrazz - awful...

Re: Little things that irritate you

American tipping culture. Being in the UK, this doesn't normally affect me, so I'll occasionally be bemused by it when I hear about it, but no big deal. I've just enquired to an American company about getting some replacement parts - they were helpful and all that, but the 2nd email I got from them ...

Re: Superhero ( & sci-fi / other relevant) films

Marvel must be really gritting their teeth every time Sony start work on another inevitable dumpster fire - it's really tarnishing their brand to have "Marvel" associated with a succession of such utter garbage. It's bad enough when their own films bomb, but for people to link them with So...

Early reviews (albeit by people you've never heard of) are in on Madame Web , the latest in a long line of Sony's attempts to tarnish the Marvel brand by association, and they're... pretty much what you'd expect YouTuber Cris Parker wrote: “ #MadameWeb is an embarrassing mess. Just a couple of minor adjustments - mainly different players and different tactics, nothing significant.

Re: The next gig you're going to

Also off to see Frank Skinner tomorrow - going with low expectations after some pretty lukewarm reviews, so hopefully will be pleasantly surprised.

Then at the weekend it's Girlschool (yay!), Alcatrazz (nooo!), Raven and Airforce (never heard of either)
