Re: Nostalgia

Slightly tenuous title for this thread! To answer the question, there's tons of decent boozers nearby, but the sheer number of them, plus their distance from the ground, seems to mean that the clientele is spread out rather than crammed in 3 or 4 boozers. Meaning I've yet to experience much in the w...

Re: Czech Republic vs England

The difference is Southgate's team won a penalty shootout at a major tournament. Let's be honest here. How can it be the difference when Hodgson never got to us to any penalty shoot-outs? As far as I recall his team lost to Iceland in 2-1 in the Euro 2016 (the smallest nation ever to qualify for a ...

Re: Czech Republic vs England

Gareth Southgate (W21 D9 L8) has lost as many games as England manager in 38 matches as Roy Hodgson lost in 56 matches as manager (W33 D15 L8). Yet Gareth is god like to some people Compare England's results and performances at Euro 2016 to those of the WC 2018 (and that Nations League or wha...

Re: Czech Republic vs England

The whole England team were poor, including Rice. Lets not kid ourselves, the England 'Team' are nowhere near the top 6 in Europe, let alone the world. An international side that has Keane, Trippier, Rose, Rashford, Pickford etc. in it are doomed. I wouldn't even have them in my Premiership side. O...

Re: Czech Republic vs England

The starting Xi that's being reported must surely be the youngest England XI in history.

Also, I remember a period in the late 90s when Czech Republic used to be a very, very good side, with players like Nedved and Berger.

Re: Mark Noble - West Ham Legend

Irrespective of Delph vs Noble argument, point is Delph has pulled out of the squad in addition to James Maddison. There's a hole for a CM to be drafted in. It'd be amazing if Noble could finally make an England squad. I just can't see that ever happening unless we were horribly short in the positio...

Re: Albian Ajeti...Welcome to The Hammers.

It's a strange one this one. Not a particularly expensive signing, not a particularly well known player but Husillos knows his way around the European transfer market and he must have thought there was potential in the player, but at the same time it's a bit of a punt, as others have said. That sai...

Tierney wouldn't be homegrown.
Scottish league players don't count as homegrown? Was about to say I never knew that, but you're right, Bob Snodz doesn't count as homegrown either.

Re: Cresswell or Masuaku?

 Then how come Arsenal got Tierney for just £25m?? We could have offered Celtic £25m + Cresswell, and had decent LB competition for Arfur sorted for years to come. Ridiculous to suggest we need £70m to fix the LB position. Again, as per my response to Cuenca above, I also said "plucking gems...

Re: Cresswell or Masuaku?

ask Peaches for a list of good Fizzy full backs who wouldn't cost 70M and I bet he could come up with quite a few. James Justin went to Leicester Jack Stacey went to Bournemouth wouldn't have cost the earth I reckon. that's just examples pulled out of memory - and it ain't that great. Like I also s...

Re: Cresswell or Masuaku?

Like I said on a previous page, I think Cresswell being homegrown must be an important factor. It's all very well "upgrading" your remaining few homegrown stars, but unless we're spunking £70m on a Ben Chilwell, prolificly producing top-quality players in our Academy, or plucking out gems from the l...

Re: Reid misses another return

Gabbidon had a brilliant first season for us, then was crocked/***** for pretty much the rest of his career. Winston was one of our best players for a number of seasons before the injuries struck. He was relatively ever-present until then. Like I said earlier, brilliant servant and arguably our best...

Re: Cresswell or Masuaku?

I suspect the homegrown ruling and the cost of English players may have influenced this move somewhat, given we are right at our limit.

That said, I do think Cresswell has been our best long-term LB since Julian.

Re: Reid misses another return

If this was Carroll everyone would be doing their nut... still unsure why Reid gets off a lot more lightly than Carroll Gets off lightly? Do you think he enjoys being injured, slowly seeing his career come to an end, wondering what he'll do next in life? For an insight in what it's like to be an in...

England U21s have just had a bunch of withdrawals including Greenwood and Nelson. Diangana still not called up, instead a coupld of Swansea players have been drafted in. Did Diangana piss off Bothroyd during the last squad get together or something? Seems utterly bizarre. Kid is on fire in the C'shi...

Re: ⚽ West Ham United v Crystal Palace: Match Thread

Unfortunately, it's a notch down from Spursy. It's like being chest deep in a bog of mud, every so often you can feel yourself pulling free onto the next level, but the mud just sucks you down once again.
