Re: The kids are all right

With an increased emphasis on technique and actual football at youth level I think it’s becoming increasingly less valuable to loan these players to League 1 and 2. The Championship would be nice but clubs there are now rich enough to sign top players and to only pluck the best of the best from the...

Re: The kids are all right

Enlighten me please. What is a promising 20yo academy defender supposed to do in League 1 that qualifies him to be considered PL standard? I would say he couldn't, it's more or less the kiss of death.

It's a bad injury to have. It takes over a year to fully recover (more with surgery) and prevents full performance of the knee. Arthritis in later years is a common side effect.

Re: England -v- Brazil & then -v- Belgium

Can't see how he can leave Bowen out. Apart from his forward contributions, he made some excellent interceptions and tackles, far superior to what Palmer or Saka achieve.

Re: The kids are all right

Agreed. So physicality is more important than skill? Sure the PL is a demanding league but plenty of players 21 or under play in it either as starters or useful subs. There seems to be a reluctance or reticence at our club to develop academy players in the PL, for that is the only way they will beco...

Personally I think he's better running with the ball and charging at defences. Not sure hanging around up front is the best use of his skills?

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024

This summer home growns will be even more over inflated. Whilst the relegated clubs will be a fertile hunting ground, there is likely going to be a clamour for them. That being they may struggle selling foreigners with prices going the other way perhaps?

Re: The kids are all right

I would imagine Moyes would take a look at Potts pre season. Financially it would make sense to put him in the first squad and keep or sell next year. We need home grown numbers (he'd cost nothing) and just a few cameos would probably draw a million or so like Johnson.

Re: England -v- Brazil (C4 from 1900)

I thought Gordon played well for his debut, would love to see him in our shirt. Lots of talent in the team but need to start playing as a team. If friendlies are about experimenting, then go for it. Not sure that he'll learn much from a cautious approach. I think the only 'takes' from that match is ...

That must be five Northern Irish lads who have signed new deals in the last few months.

Re: The next 6 games...

I think it is apparent that 'playmakers' are important to our performing well. Paq, obviously, and to some extent Kudus & Bowen. The ability to find key passes, take on defenders and create individual goals. Flashes from Emerson and Alvarez help but I think our success will largely depend on kee...

Re: The next 6 games...

I think our season will be defined by how many injuries/reds we get over the next month. With Alvarez out, if we lose any of our 'top 4' things could get bad, 2 out would be a disaster. It's naive to think our 'first' team will survive unscathed for the rest of the season. We need Phillips and JWP t...
