Re: ⚽ West Ham United v Norwich City: Match Thread

I would be very happy with a boring but comfortable 1-0. I do like that we are set up like the Charge of the Light Brigade but a bit of controlled possession, tracking back and game management would also be welcome.

Re: ⚽ Watford v West Ham Utd: match thread

I was pleased with our summer signings but I think Watford did well with Sarr, Dawson and Welbeck.
At some point they will get their mojo back.
I will be happy if we get a point.

Re: ⚽ Brighton & Hove Albion vs West Ham Utd: match thread

Surely Pelligrini has been around long enough to organise his defence? No? :? This is the bit I find generally puzzling. I am not looking for the return of BFS or even Hodgson's robot-coaching but most PL teams have much better shape without the ball. We don't seem to have trained for the basics. T...

Even more stupid injury news for Norwich: (From BBC) Norwich winger Onel Hernandez may need surgery on a knee injury he sustained slipping and falling at home. Canaries manager Daniel Farke said the 26-year-old Cuba international has suffered a suspected ACL injury and "is out for three months&...

Re: ⚽ Brighton and Hove Albion vs West Ham United: Match Thread

If Felipe and Haller are out: Fab Fredericks Balbuena Diop Cresswell (I think he'll opt for 'continuity' at LB, with Arthur to come on as sub) Rice, Wilshire (assuming he's ok, if not, Snodgrass) Fornals Lanzini Yarmelenko (I just hope he's been drilling them all week on tracking back and not giving...

Re: ⚽ West Ham United v Manchester City: Match Thread (10/8)

We shouldn't be a shambles. This team knows each other and the system. I'll be looking for a lot of energetic pressing and better ball retention. Of course, City will dominate possession and win, 0-2, but I'll be satisfied with a coherent, committed performance and delighted if we can score one, let...

Re: The summer transfer window 2019 thread

I like the signings we’ve made, Haller and Fornals will do well but I don’t consider it a successful window as we haven’t addressed what our main problem was last season. I think teams with any pace will just run through our midfield again and get at our back line too easily. I don’t see enough pac...

Makes sense. They'll get back any fee in shirt sales from deluded Geordies.

Re: Ben Johnson

Full back is one of the most difficult roles in the modern game. You are expected to do everything and they are vital to the transition from attack/defence/counter plus having to fit into formational changes. They are frequently exposed by their midfield or centre backs but are expected to support b...

Re: Manuel Pellegrini West Ham United’s 17th manager

I think that he's done better than the stats alone suggest. As people have said he has had injury problems, less money than teams like Wolves, and disruptions. Clearly he is setting us up to play at a level and style that will need at least four more quality players to move us towards a serious 6/7t...

Re: ⚽West Ham Utd v Huddersfield Town: match thread (16/3)

Clearly the danger is that we are complacent and they play with some freedom now that they are down. We know they are well-organised and will put in a shift but we should still be able to lift our game. This is a good chance to keep ahead of Everton/Leicester and put some pressure (!) on Watford and...

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Liverpool: Match thread

I will be boring and go for a comfortable 0-2 win for them. It's the default result when we play this lot. I wouldn't be surprised if they get them in the first half and then coast. I'm hoping for a spirited start and some stamina but even if we played to 100% we are so short on players at the momen...

Re: Jan Transfer Window 18/19

I dont quite get the love for Shelvey. He seems like someone who hits the odd big pass or shot but doesn't really contribute all round. Not particularly astute positionally either. Can't quite see how he'd fit in with us.

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Brighton & H/A: Match Thread (02/01)

I think fatigue had a lot to do with today. I can see why he started Carroll on but it goes against everything we're trying to do. We were much better with Noble and Antonio (Yarmelenko would do a similar job but better). Cresswell was outstanding. Zab was not remotely match-ready. We miss the gener...

Re: ⚽ Burnley FC v West Ham Utd: Match Thread (30/12)

I think we've seen from yesterday's games that the Christmas period is now all about stamina. If you give it all the other team will wilt. We've got to be massively up for this and have some fresh legs. Might be one for Nobes.

Many who wanted him to be something that he just wasn’t capable of being. Carroll was Carroll yesterday and it helped us win the game imo.
agreed. And Pellers knows exactly how to use him.

Re: Michail Antonio

Happy that he is on form, nothing against the man, but he is simply not a good enough footballer for this hopefully rising Pellegrini squad. I think we should get rid of him (and for the same reasons Masuaku) in the summer and simply get better players I think this is true. He made at least three s...

Re: Declan Rice

Fantastic news. He's been outstanding for 50 games now so this is not a fluke. His technique is superb, his temperament is perfect: calm but committed; his football intelligence is remarkable and he also seems to have the physique. He's much faster than you'd think and has a massive engine and doesn...

Re: ⚽ Fulham v West Ham United: Match Thread

Delighted by the win and the sheer cavalier attitude but that was also rather sloppy at times. Watford will be much tougher but I have a feeling we will rise to the occasion.
