Re: The Golf Thread

Sorry to get back to actual clubs again, but what are people's thoughts on the callaway mavrik range? From a technical point of view, they ran some AI tests on around a million virtual head combinations to end up with a slightly different face for each iron to maximise efficiency of spin rate and sp...

Re: The Golf Thread

I don't know if it has always been like this but the amount of choice is unreal. There is a range for every price band and the technological jargon is crazy. Rick Shiels did a video where he bought a scavenger set from sports direct for like 70 quid, including putter, driver, bag etc. He didn't score...

Re: The Golf Thread

Cheers JBB.

I am a subscriber to Rick, and also Mark Crossfield/Dan Hendrickson.

They did decent reviews of the rogue range, and as I already play with the X hot,I want to keep to Callaway if possible.

Re: The Golf Thread

I'm hopefully going to buy my new irons at the end of the month, ultimately opting for the Callaway rogue pro. I went to American golf yesterday to have a look at a few sets and the only useful thing from that was seeing that almost all the sets I've been looking at are much of a muchness in terms o...

Re: A bit of light relief - what your boots say

Copa Mundials for me, and the description is near enough spot on, except for an orange and pineapple bottle of squash instead of Volvic!

Re: Too many games

I agree that replays and two legged cup ties should be stopped.

I don't really like extra time, the game is 90mins, I would prefer it go straight to penalties after that.

Re: Which is hardest

I'd say a 147.

Seems to be more to get right and not just putting balls but placement of the white.

Would have thought 300 in bowling is most common from what I've watched on Sky.

Toasters that cook faster on one side than the other.

Side 1, perfect light tan
Side 2, dark brown, needs a scrape

Grrrrrrr
Turn it on its side and use it for cheese on toast

Crack the egg on a flat surface rather than something blunt like the edge of a pan, it keeps the shell together more, rather than it breaking into loads of little pieces in the first place.

Re: The Golf Thread

Benton Hall is quite a bit shorter than the Essex, being around 5950 yards off the yellows compared to 6650 at the Essex.

Re: The Golf Thread

I play The Essex, Earls Colne. There is a trolley ban in place but I carry anyway. The course was only shut one or two days, but there have been a couple more days where only 9 were open, then alternated. This has been the wettest I have seen it. Hopefully should dry off quickly as the drainage is r...

Re: The Golf Thread

Decent enough round today although inconsistent and very wet and muddy. Last 3 rounds have been 18 over, 25 over then today was 23. Could have played much better but anything off the fairway was easily two shots lost. Even some of the fairways had big puddles so no roll. Looking forward to the sprin...

Re: The Mental Health Thread - (Help Contacts in First Post).

I regularly have a read of this thread and only have admiration for those of you not only persevering, but progressing, with some of the issues facing you. No one is alone, if any of you are in the Chelmsford area and ever need a chat or pint (although I've been tee total since 29 November and plann...

Re: The Golf Thread

Played again Saturday,we had some bloke join our two ball, which we were fine with. He only joined us for 9 holes, played quite decent but scored the same as me. He mentioned halfway through he has the captain last year (cue extra care on fixing plug marks etc.! Nice bloke, except being a Man Utd fa...

Re: The Golf Thread

Cheers both, There seems to be so much choice out there nowadays and I doubt much of the 'technology' would really make much of a difference for me. Although i haven't got an official handicap, I'm about a 20 so the Callawa Rogue seem decent enough and around 500 quid for 4-PW, or the Rogue Pro (sli...

Re: The Golf Thread

Cheers JBB. I did look on golfbidder the other day but didn't know how credible they were. I will most likely buy new if I am going to shell out a few hundred quid anyway, but understand the I500 set is out my range. The X Hot have quite a big cavity, but I prefer a sleeker look. The Taylormade M4/M...

Re: The Golf Thread

Played my usual course, The Essex, Earl's Colne. Best round I've ever had, which was surprising given the muddy conditions. I was 18 over, 11 on the front 9 and only 7 on the back. 4 pars and a birdie, one triple, the rest were bogeys and a couple of doubles. Really looking forward to it this year. L...

Re: 2nd Hand Car Considerations

I would recommend a newish 2nd hand as suggested. I bought a Ford focus zetec 1.5tdci with a couple of extra gadgets about a year and a half ago (it was 2 and a half years old with 15k on the clock). As others have said, it felt pretty much new as it had one owner who had looked after it well. We go...
