Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024

Him and a creative anchor to play on the left and it'd be very wise use of Paqueta money. As long as we have at least 1 luxury creative player who can make something happen from nothing in that top 4 with 3 grafters and we'd have a decent balance. Was thinking the same, don't necessarily want all a...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024

Surely Jonathan David is gonna move this summer with only one year left. When I have seen him he doesn't look good enough for the likes of Arsenal as previously touted but he has looked like a hard worker and team player with good speed and quality. Does his defensive duties and presses that Moyes p...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024

I'm saying if if the argument is that MGW is not weakening the team due to numbers (the argument, if you read the conversation), than we already have a player that posts better numbers than both? I thought that was pretty clear. MGW takes set pieces (including penalties, like JWP) too... if you wan...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024

Because he is a worse player and doesn't play anything like Paqueta. If you want numbers, just play JWP in the role (better numbers than them both). Job done, 60 million to be reinvested in other positions. Are you saying JWP has better numbers as a number 10 than both Paqueta and MGW? Are you coun...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

Being "proactive" means spending more money. Villa need to qualify for the Champions League just to stand still. It amazes me that people still do not get the financial realities of the game. Same with people who think an asset-stripper like DK is going to take over and sink his own wealt...

That's a key point though I guess? The opportunity to balance the books with the Rice sale ends mid June?

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

For all the Aston Villa admirers, their previous four managers before Emery were Steven Gerrard, Dean Smith, Steve Bruce and Roberto Di Matteo. They also face potential financial fair play issues. Newcastle are a bit different as they are now owned by a sovereign wealth fund. You are talking about ...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

The hierarchy that appointed Gerrard or Dean Smith wouldn't appoint Moyes? The hierarchy who may face some serious FFP issues in the coming seasons wouldn't appoint a manager who has been the best outside the top 6 at delivering European football to a club on a budget? I do think some may be surpri...

Re: West Ham Utd v Bayer Leverkusen: match thread (2nd leg)

Getting the balance right and not conceding when pushing for goals will be really tough. Think I would go really ugly in the first half and not risk space behind our defence. Really direct and Big Sam like, play Soucek behind Antonio and get crosses in from deep. Have big Tom pulling onto the back s...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024

Its generally how the accounting treatment of players has been done for years. you recognise the "cost" to the P&L for the period that the asset is useful (the length of their contract). If you own a factory producing widgets, you spend £100m on a widget making machine that will last ...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024

Not quite: the whole sell price booked in one season, regardless of payment terms. The cost side of the sale is the value of that player in your books. So no, we couldn't directly use this year's profits to offset next year's squad cost control rules. There are levers we could pull to reduce this y...

Re: ✍️ Welcome Lucas Paquetá - Our Brazilian Magnifico

We had that spell when we looked absolutely hopeless when he wasn't in the team, which I think maybe exaggerated his importance to us, but we haven't actually improved that much since he came back. As usual the positive was way over exaggerated (imo) as is the negative. It lies someone in the middl...

Sorry fella this is a load of cobblers, where have you pulled these stats from? Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

For my money Kudus is Paqueta's replacement and will play centrally next season. Or Bowen will go up front. If Moyes stays then Kudus centrally makes sense playing like Lingard. Also Bowen isn't suited to his CF role. So a LW and CF funded by Paqueta would make us more balanced. Defence rebuild as ...

We aren’t getting better than him for that though so would be pointless?
Form has disappeared since playing out of position but can still contribute as a box to box next season imo.

Re: ✍ Welcome James Ward-Prowse

Surely the relevant question is "If you took out JWP's set pieces, are you happy with what is left?".Sadly the truth,IMO, is absolutely not and that could be applied to pretty much any point in the season. We scored from set pieces before JWP though. What's he got 8 assists from setpieces?...

Re: Where will we finish?

Wolves have the top 3 to play I'd be surprised if you get more than 7-8 points.
Brighton have a tough set so I don't see them getting more than 7 but likely less.

I think we need to win 2 games to secure 9th.

If betting I would say 10th.
Beat Chelsea, maybe just 8th.
