Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

Yup. I find the transfer spend a weird stick to hit the manager with. For most of his tenure the club has been pretty thrifty. There was last season’s window, but it came after years of underinvestment despite European appearances and high league placings. Before that the club would miss out on tar...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

Why would we look below us? We're above those teams. But the claim is we should be higher in the league so let's look at those teams above us. Brighton, Newcastle, Villa, how many of our squad start for them? In fact if we did a best 11 how many of ours get in? I think you have to squeeze Paqueta i...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

Transfer spend is a red herring. Teams like Liverpool can spend more because they sell their expensive assets for big money. Wage bill is much more indicative to quality of squad. Ours is tenth. Results were good enough, we had our best ever start to a Premier League season. 6 games without a win a...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

In 2023 we were 9th in the league table. That's an entire year performing above our wage structure, which is 10th. That's balanced with winning a trophy, where we rested players in preparation for both semi and final, and topping our Europa League group. What part of that is 'average to poor'? It's...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

We clearly put Our eggs in one basket towards the end of last season, weakened sides against Leeds and Brentford spring immediately to mind. After the World Cup our form picked up and we were mid table in the form guide for a long time, then we threw a few games to focus on Europe, a trophy that we...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

"We were poor in the league all last season. Last season + this season we're still at 1.2 points per game. For me, that's not good enough." That was you in the same post talking about all of last season. Yeah I'm talking about our 14th place finish used as the latest stick to beat him wit...

We haven't played a European game since the downturn in form.
Or are we saying last seasons poor showing was down to European football?

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

So you can ignore our best ever start to a season over a 19 game period? I'm not denying 2024 has been poor, but I think there's been mitigating circumstances. It would be embarrassing for us to sack our manager whilst in 9th, having topped our Europa League group, for a bad period of 6 games. What...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

The first half of the season was our best ever start to a Premier League season. It's all turned upside down over the last 6 league games, but to say we've been rubbish for a solid two years is just a lie. I didn't say two years of solid rubbish. I can't remember the exact numbers but we are somewh...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

Over a two season period our league form has been poor. If you're going to set up the way Moyes does then you need to be absolutely delivering the results because many (me included) will not enjoy the style of play. As soon as the results drop the criticism will come thick and fast. The league form ...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

I don’t see yesterday as turning any corners, just a scrappy win that’s been commonplace since January 22 (not common enough though).
If anything it just reinforces what we already know.

Hopefully we’ll do enough to stay up and start with a clean slate in the summer.
