Re: West Ham Utd v Bayer Leverkusen: match thread (2nd leg)

I wondered about that, but I looked it up and the World Cup 2022 guidelines suggested it does count. Perhaps they have changed the rules again. I can't keep up with them these days. EDIT Found the Champions League regulations for this season - Article 41.04 says: "Each team may use a maximum o...

Re: West Ham Utd v Bayer Leverkusen: match thread (2nd leg)

That first half, we could have taken the tie. Fine margins. The Kudus shot deflected when the keeper was going the other way The Leverkusen player booting the ball away when Cresswell was down not getting booked The Bowen chance at the back post Xhaka having Antonio round the throat during the mele...

Re: West Ham Utd v Bayer Leverkusen: match thread (2nd leg)

My only disappointment last night was that they got the late goal to remain unbeaten. The team were fantastic and deserved to be the first, and possibly only team to beat them this season. Unfortunately there was no way we could keep up that momentum from the first half. Half the team were dead on t...

Re: Everton FC: 10 Point Deduction Confirmed for PL FFP breach

Everton have appealed. The result of the appeal could come 5 days after the end of the season. So relegation could be decided by old farts in a room. I can see that not going down well and make Sheffields March on London look like a day trip. Dream scenario - they stay up on goal difference and the...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!

This. If Moyes brought on Anang for Antonio at HT Scarles for Emerson and Ogbonna for Zouma at 50th minute we'd have one eye on semi final right now. What's made me even more furious is that everyone could see that Soucek was struggling that game, and we've got prime Iniesta sitting on the bench tw...

Such a shame Paqueta got himself booked, not sure how we win without him next week.
A draw will be fine next week after we walk away with a 1-0 win tonight  :scarfer: :scarfer:

Re: Bayer Leverkusen v West Ham Utd Europa QF 1st leg match thread

We're going through against Leverkusen for certain. The reason I'm so sure is this crazy premonition I've had for the past few weeks. It's 1-1 in the 93rd minute in the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Klopp's last ever game for Liverpool - the world's media is focused on him and poor little West Ham are ju...

Shock, horror. This offside rule has been used previously! According to MOTD it was made up by the ref just yesterday!

Re: Wolverhampton Wanderers v West Ham United - match thread

:kumbnew: Ex-Hammer Ian Wright says it was a goal. Fabianski could have moved to where he could see it. I recall 2 or 3 years back, I think against Chelsea. Soucek was lying on the floor in front of the keeper and we scored and Soucek was given offside. That was far worse than today. O'Neill claimin...

Re: Wolverhampton Wanderers v West Ham United - match thread

Their penalty was a penalty - Emerson never touched the ball. Emerson goal should never have been ruled out. Slightest of touches and never enough to be considered a foul. Our penalty was as clear a penalty as you will ever see - their played looked very guilty and didn't argue. Their last minute go...

Frankly both VAR decisions should have been goals and a 3-2 win for us.

Re: Stopping the cheating

I actually have some sympathy for the referees. The game is so fast and the concentration levels needed are through the roof. I miss so much when I watch the game and am surprised when I watch back later on the TV. There's no excuse though for the poor VAR decisions or when idiot refs make a bad cal...

Re: Premier League: Financial Reports (2022/2023)

The BBC article here shows that financially we're actually in a strong position and quite well run: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/68713522 However, where we're really falling short is in commercial income - £48m versus £228m by Spurs for example. Makes a complete lie of the recent Sean Whetst...

Re: The Cresswell Thread

An excellent article on the West Ham site about Cresswell's career at West Ham, but who proof-reads this stuff? "Cresswell featured for the Hammers in their 384th and final Premier League game at the Boleyn Ground in 2016, when they came from behind to defeat Manchester United 3-2. The manager ...

Re: The kids are all right

Spot on hammer1975. I suspect that a lot have seen our recent success at youth level and assumed (or just hoping) that there are a few gems ready to step into the first team. It's just not that simple. It's also another excuse for some to bash the manager. Teams like Liverpool also play the same sy...

Re: West Ham United -v- SC Freiburg - 2nd leg match thread - 14.03.24

HE ALMOST ****ing DID IT! WHEN, VLAD, WHEN? The final in Dublin. West Ham 0, Liverpool 0. 96th minute. Bowen takes a shot, blocked, falls to Coufal just inside the box. He strikes it. It ripples the net top left corner. West Ham fans silent for a second. Coufal runs to the corner. Bedlam ensues. Be...
