Re: Lincoln City vs West Ham United: match thread (Carabao Cup)

Lincoln have been playing good football under Kennedy. They stuck to their game and weren't phased by us. They worked harder and had their tails up for most of the game, backed by their biggest crowd of the season. The wind picking up in the second half was massively in their favour, especially when...

Re: Is Ilford in East London or Essex?

I guess it depends on whether you measure the boundary by constitution or legislation. The River Lea has been the boundary between the Kingdoms/ Counties of Essex and Middlesex for 1200 years. Then in 1965, the legislative power in Parliament decided to redraw the political boundaries. However, the ...

Re: Cycling

Cycle Tracks (as opposed to cycle lanes on roads). Apologies if this gets a bit long and boring, but it took me a while to dig around and find the facts, and I thought some of you might find it useful if you have the choice of carriageway or cycle track. Part of my commute is along an A road that ha...

Re: Cycling

I was surprised to find my bike came without pedals as well. The guys in Halfords explained that as soon as you get above a certain price point, the first thing the customer wants is to fit the right pedals to match their cycling shoes - not the other way round. The standard pedals the bike is sold ...

Re: Cycling

For what they're worth, I'd add a few more pointers that work for me. I'm old, and commute over 100 miles per week. That gives me a baseline fitness that allows me to hop on the bike at the weekend and bang out a 100+mile ride with no ill effect. Nothing beats a whole day of cycling the back roads a...

London telephone exchange names - as mentioned a couple of pages back. We were Clocktower, which became 552. See http://rhaworth.net/phreak/tenp_01.php or google London Director Exchange Names for the list.

Re: Cycling

I started cycling to work after turning 50 and deciding I needed a change. In no particular order, my top tips would be: Choose the right bike for the job. Buying a mountain bike for commuting is a bit like buying a JCB for motorway cruising. Full length mudguards a a must for winter riding. Cycling...

Re: ⚽ Manchester City v West Ham United: MATCH POSTPONED (09/02)

Left Manchester as we should have been kicking off. Heavy hail hitting like bullets, thunder and lightning, wind gusting strong enough to strip the plywood off the windows. Crossed the Woodhead Pass to Sheffield where it was still shabby weather, but much, much better than in Manchester. Good call.

CH, thanks mate, always my first port of call. Would love to see Collins back. As for the spuds accusing the arse of interfering in a transfer deal - hahahahaha. The words pot and kettle spring to mind.

Who's the wakner in the suit?

Best bit about the lock-in was seeing the stewards trying to keep a straight face as their pr@t of a boss was serenaded.
