Re: Match #43/R16: England 2-0 Germany (5pm, Tuesday 29th June)

Had that been Belgium we were playing today, and Lukaku bursting towards our goal, just before Kane scored our second, that would've been 1-1. That's the sort of goal I've seen him score don't know how many times But it wasn't Belgium we were playing, it was Germany and the player was Thomas Müller...

Yes but it's the law that the Manchester clubs have to be on first.

Re: ⚽ Everton vs West Ham Utd: match thread (16/9)

I'm on my way back..can someone explain what Perez has done please? pellegrini said that he had asked Perez to get ready to come on but Arnie went down injured so saw Antonio was warming up and put him straight on. Perez then threw his toys out the pram. If that's the case then that's completely di...

Re: #63 England v Belgium ~ 3rd /4th place match thread

We scored an 87th minute set piece winner against Tunisia, then beat the worst team in the tournament, then lost to a far better team, then we were run ragged by Colombia in the second half. Although we won the penalty shoot out, after extra time, it should be noted, Colombia also whacked one again...

Re: #62 England 1-2 Croatia - Semi-Final 2

So would Kane's goal have stood when he hit the post? I know he was onside but the assistant raised his flag. I know they can overrule the other way but has been mentioned multiple times that the linesmen are to keep flag down in tight situations because cannot be overruled? It would have stood, ma...

Re: Gareth Southgate

Sorry to pick just one thing out of a post but does this really matter? It's only two years ago since Iceland dumped us out. Switzerland were ranked 7th(?) for this tournament. Sweden got past them and we beat Sweden. All of the teams that are there are there on merit, not on the basis of their non...

Re: VAR, For or against

I think it's been a success, it won't always be perfect but the correct decision is arrived at more often than without it. It hasn't been used so much in the latter games and I think that's showing that it's working, players are not committing the relevant fouls or diving so much because the VAR is ...

Bit OT but I've just noticed we play Croatia (and Spain) in September - November in the EUFA Nations League.

Re: #62 England v Croatia - Semi-Final 2 ~ Match thread

Ah I'm getting it now, so nobody in England believed they would win, they all thought Croatia were the better team all along and the positivity was just our way of getting behind the players. We're gonna win the Euros and next World Cup :scarfer: You're being ridiculous. Believing your team can win...

Re: 3rd /4th place match thread ~ England v Belgium

Completely pointless match. I'm actually out at the theatre when this match is on so will miss it but couldn't care less, if it had been one of the "proper" matches I'd have cancelled whatever I had on but this has less importance than a pre tournament friendly. Definitely give the squad p...

Re: West Ham & England

My earliest football memories are reasonable vague ones of West Ham winning the FA cup in 64 followed by the ECWP in 65. I remember the England win in 66 very well, I was 10 at the time and really confident throughout the tournament, I don't think getting used to winning when I was young helped with...

Re: #62 England v Croatia - Semi-Final 2 ~ Match thread

I see it did not take long for a few muppets to come out on this thread :asleep: We lost due to inexperience and a little bit of creativity in the middle, that's all. Croatia deserved it, just, fair play to them, I hope they go on to win it. Thank you Sir Gareth of the Southgate and your coaching s...

Re: #62 England v Croatia - Semi-Final 2 ~ Match thread

They, along with the rest of the team was just knackered. When that happens you switch off and lose concentration. Yes the team tiring in the second half has been a problem for a while now not just these finals. I said to my better half at half time that we'd regret not taking another chance in the...

Seriously? I thought they were very impressive and will be very big favourites whoever they face in the final. The weakness they showed in the last Euros against Portugal doesn't seem to be there now.

Re: #59 Sweden v England - Quarter Finals ~ Match thread

Lingard running around a lot but not really getting many touches on the ball. Those runs are absolutely vital to England. The biggest difference between this England and others is the movement off the ball whether those players receive the ball or not. The reason Spain were so good for those three ...

Re: Sterling

Jas running is the very least required of any footballer, let alone in a W.C. 1/4 final........that's twice he's been 2 - 6 yards out and failed to finish with only the g.k. to beat.... It's the quality of his runs and what it does to the opposition that counts and even getting into the position to...

Still gutted there's no AC nor Wilshere. We have no plan B nor C. With ET very likely once you get to the knockout, that's FOUR subs. Andy is a 20 minute impact player. He makes things happen and feeds off desperate crosses that all teams put in when a goal is required to avoid the plane home. Can ...

Re: England v Colombia -Match thread ~ Round of 16

I actually thought we were a bit lucky - without the penalty we would have created next to no scoring opportunities at all, aside from Rose's shot across the front of goal during extra time. We're not very creative, at least in this formation, and the six past Panama might have masked that. We'll n...
