Re: Little things in life that make you smile

A surprise 50th birthday party organised for me on Saturday by my missus. She'd had been planning it since January and managed to get a load of mates (the furthest travelled was a mate who came all the way from Germany), people from work, family and people I hadn't seen in ages (in some cases years...

Re: ⚽ Everton v West Ham United: Match Thread

I feel we’re trying to be a bit Man City lite, manoeuvring the ball to find space out wide, get to the by-line then low across the box for a tap-in. Haller has got a few goals like that already. We are definitely not banging in high crosses to head on plenty of occasions when players could, which m...

Re: Subbuteo

My subbuteo is in our attic, I couldn't bare to part with it. We used to have a league at school, and even in our early twenties it was not unknown for us to get together for drunken tournament. For some reason our league used Scottish Premier League teams, I suspect it was because more than one per...

Re: Little things that irritate you

Was thinking cramp shouldn't really be continuous & long lasting. Do you remember how/when you did it, HH? When I couldn't stretch it off I thought I had just pulled the muscle, as you say shouldn't last a few days. The really annoying thing is that I can't remember when I did it. In work yesterday...

Re: Little things that irritate you

More than an irritation for sure, but finding out at my wife's 20 week pregnancy scan yesterday that the baby was no longer viable, and now having to decide what to do about it. none of the options are particularly appealing Definitely not a little thing. Best wishes to you and your wife, hope ever...

Re: Little things that irritate you

I've been struggling with a pain very like cramp in my left calf for over a week, didn't seem to go away. Finally phoned GP up for advice and was told to pop in. Turns out I have a grade 2 tear in my calf muscle, grade 1 is a slight strain and grade 3 is totally torn, requiring surgery, so sounds li...

Re: Little things that irritate you

I pulled up a a petrol station, driving an SUV and I was unsure whether the hose would reach round so pulled up with the pump on the filler cap side. There was a car at the pump with the driver sat inside, so I assumed that he would drive off soon, plus the pump in front was out of use. I could see ...

And divide by five.

The lightning strike is as good as instantaneous, sound travels at around 5 seconds per mile at sea level.
We told her about counting seconds and it totally ****ed her but I didn't know about dividing by 5.

Re: ⚽Oxford United v West Ham United: LC R3 Match Thread

After speaking to a Oxford fan we booked into the park and ride at Unipart, apparently parking near the ground can be a pain - then busy getting away after.

Re: League Cup 3rd Round

Talking to Spurs fan in the office yesterday, him taking the piss about "little" West Ham making such a fuss over beating Man U - apparently because we are such a little team. Followed by how they were going to win the league cup. I'm working from home today to make it easy to get to Oxford tonight,...

Re: Little things in life that make you smile

Out with friends last night when one of the women (who is in her mid-fifties) learnt that lightening comes before thunder, then for the next two hours kept repeating this as though it was some major revelation.

Re: ⚽ Aston Villa v West Ham United: Match Thread

Whilst i get quite a few of the positives about the performance, and i think a point is a decent result, the elephant in the room is Tom Heaton barely touched the ball, either from shots or dealing with crosses, parries etc We have to find a way of turning possession and decent situations into crea...

Re: Small Claims - Do I have a case

To answer your original question about claims, with the caveat that I am not an expert. I would assume that it all comes down to evidence, can you prove commitment to attend at a date and time and failing to attend without notice (probably not claimable, though perhaps your expenses)? Can you prove ...

Re: Cancelling Sky/BT.

I cancelled sky when I moved in with my (now) wife in 2015, at that time I had movies and sport but to be honest I had being living with her several days a week before that so didn't really use it enough anyway. We have Amazon Prime, Netflix and Now TV (entertainment and movies), so the only thing w...

Re: ⚽ Watford v West Ham Utd: match thread

Ah well, I enjoyed your xG post at least, Wilko. I found it interesting but I think it is critical to understand the flaws in any statistical method, a bit like the shots on target stat - (as I understand it) a shot that is saved by the keeper counts, blocked by an outfield player outside th...

Re: ⚽ Watford v West Ham Utd: match thread

All xG is doing is confirming to me that stats in football have very limited usefullness. Remember when Liverpool tried to use moneyball tactics? I haven't read The Times in ages, but if the Fink Tank is still going, again that's a load of *****. We can talk about what chances were .6 of a goal and...

Re: Online Dating

I remember meeting one woman who seemed sane on the phone. I swear that her opening line when we met was "I'm looking for husband number four, are you looking for marriage if not I'm not really interested?" It was a very short date  To tell the other side, I knew a few women who were on dating ...

Re: Online Dating

Turned out she was 74 but fancied men in their forties so lied about her age The funniest thing about this is she actually had to tell you she was 74 and not in her 40's. I cannot imagine what she must look like. She had posted a photo that was more than a few years old, in which she was probably l...
