Re: Russian invasion of Ukraine

although I doubt it impacts Papal Infallibility, the Vatican has been quickly out of the blocks to ‘clarify’ what the pope said and the meaning behind it. Taken at face value he isn’t calling for surrender.

Re: West Ham Utd V Burnley: match thread - 10.03.24

A KPI is to beat teams like Burnley. We didnt. Ditto Sheffield United six weeks back. I won't fall over myself to compliment a comeback against a team with 3 victories all season (two against direct relegation rivals). Not picking up 6 points against a team in that predicament is poor. I do respect ...

Re: Russian invasion of Ukraine

A lot of alt-right chuds love Putin because he's against "leftism". I get the feeling a lot of Americans - like Trump and of course people like Musk - would prefer the US to be allied with Russia rather than with the rest of NATO. He’s also an extremely jingoistic individual with a massiv...

Re: Russian invasion of Ukraine

I’ve never said I think that Biden and Bojo are heroes. I disagree that the bear was poked, not least because the history and the geography doesn’t speak to that. The fact that Putin uses it, doesn’t make it so. He also uses other bogus arguments for the invasion, which once again don’t stack up. So...

Re: Russian invasion of Ukraine

But we're still hearing from him. I'd like to hear from him. It doesn't mean I have to believe him, take his side, but I'm at a loss as what this is all about and we only ever hear about Putin being a mad man and its his dying wish to take back the USSR. Fine if that's the case, what does hearing f...

Re: Russian invasion of Ukraine

Tucker Carlson to interview Putin in Moscow. For some reason there are people who think this will be some sort of balancing act and will allow Putin tell ‘his side of the story.’ You’d have to laugh. Thousands of journalists exiled and Western journalists effectively embargoed from asking him questi...

Re: Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool (non WHU!)

He's done very well. Considering he also had to compete with Man City and Chelsea who have an endless pile of money, and Manchester United who spent wildly over the same period. One of his strongest suits was his ability to spot the talent that would progress Liverpool, and the talent that just was ...

Feels like a loss…
Because it is a truly awful result against one of the all time PL’s most inferior teams.

Re: A blast from the past

2014 was a comparatively good year to be a WH fan. The first half of 2014/2015 was unbelievable fun, and on paper we had a team of contenders.

Re: UKIP reborn/Reform

Although seats won’t be won, parties like UKIP, Brexit/Reform influence elections in other ways, and there is a longer game at play (whether they understand/accept that). It’s unsurprising that the rhetoric of the tories has moved to the right after years of results for the fringe conservative parti...

Re: Christmas decoration watch

WTF have people put up a Christmas tree already for? I'm not as bah humbug as Pinks, but I still can't get my head around it. Christmas is more than 3 weeks away. To me its a whole month thing. When living with my parents we seemed to get the tree up between the 14th-18th December. A week always se...

Re: Your teachers

Only two negative experiences stick out in my mind. When I was 7 our teacher had to take a leave of absence as she recovered from a car accident, and a substitute teacher was introduced. I assume that it was due to me being the tallest in class at the time, but she had a fixation with the view that ...

Re: Christmas Eve matches.

28 years since the last Christmas Eve fixture, Man U v Leeds at Elland Road. Not been repeated since. There is no reason to hold a game on Christmas Eve, and no need. Hold it late on the 23rd, or kick it back to an available date in the new year. Unfortunately, they know that fans will attend, espec...

Re: West Ham Utd vs Everton: match thread

Everton are a fairly run down side that have been poor for 18 months straight. They stayed up by the skin of their teeth last term, and they look very ropey already. Hence, its a good time to show up and play West Ham, even better for DCL to get a customary goal. Dyche has them well drilled, but the...

Re: Men’s Rugby Union World Cup - France ‘23

Had to rely on the tightness of the game for entertainment value, as it wasn't a great final from an aesthetic point of view, or a technical one, with lots of handling errors, and I'd argue decision making ones too. Fortunate that the red card didnt turn it into a one sided game, and NZ really made ...

Re: Men’s Rugby Union World Cup - France ‘23

The skewed draw helped Argentina get as far as they did. The had the freedom to lose a pool game (against 14 men for 70 mins), benefitted further by Australia's disaster tournament, and then played a poor Welsh team, before being obliterated by the first contender team they played. Better decision m...

I know in 1997 we nearly signed John Barnes, but in 1996 was it reported that we were looking to sign Ian Rush, before he went to Leeds?

Re: The Sunak Government 2022-

The votes for Reform UK, UKIP and other fringe parties is interesting, as if you aggregate it, and give it to its more likely home of the Tories, the Tories squeak the seat. You’ll also notice the small return for the LD’s, unlike mid-bedfordshire where they came close to 10k votes. The performance ...

Granted on this occasion they have, however, they had the harder route due exactly the same system in 2011, 2015 and 2019, when they had compete with two other top ten ranked teams. Something the media and many fans of other countries conveniently seem to forget. 2019 was particularly difficult. Be...

Re: Men’s Rugby Union World Cup - France ‘23

Didn't expect us the get out of the pool stage, yet here we are looking forward to a semi final. How ironic it would be if we were the sole surviving Northern Hemisphere team going into the semis!!! Not being funny, but England have reaped the benefits of seeding, and the unprecedented failure of a...
