Re: Times we were really rubbish.

They were a truly dreadful Everton team, and had been a truly dreadful iteration of Everton for most of the first decade of the PL. IIRC they won something like two games between Christmas and Easter, only for Kevin Campbell to sign and score ten goals in the final six games where Everton picked up ...

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

I am seriously beginning to wonder if Moyes is really too interested in further team strengthening for the moment, since it is ano established fact, he likes to work with a small and settled squad of players I dont think you're ever likely to see a glut of signings at one time under Moyes. Think Bi...

Re: Michail Antonio: club legend?

I think a statistic like that does put one in the range of 'legend' status. Antonio is interesting simply because I think there were spells, historically, where the majority of fans would have been agreeable to him being sold. Particularly in 2018 when we were evolving the team very quickly, and lar...

Re: Times we were really rubbish.

There is at least one per year, if not numerous ones. The Wolves game is an outstanding example. To me 2009/2010 offset out gripe about being relegated with 42 points in 2003. We were safe with 34 points with two games to go and relied on home wins against Sunderland and Wigan to survive. But we wer...

Re: ✍ Alex Král

Wonder if there's a guaranteed purchase clause in his contact linked to games or minutes? If so, and it has already been reached after 5 games across all competitions then he should be let return to Spartak. Today raises serious questions about his role, particularly as two CDM style players were a...

Re: Who Will Beat Us To Top 4?

Today would suggest we'll beat ourselves. For almost two years we've been relying on a finely balance equilibrium, that cannot be altered greatly. Today, we were minus our first choice of central defenders, and our first choice CDM (and evidently our second). That is a question of funding for streng...

Re: Lukasz Fabianski signs

Have we made a better signing than Fabianski since Payet? Came in, immediately improved our GK situation, and has been solid ever since. While I think he's slowed down in terms of reactions this season, for sure, he has also made saves like the one against Norwich which have kept clean sheets. I th...

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

The Wood deal to Newcastle is interesting. I’m not sure too many clubs would pay more than £5/£6 million for players of similar age and similar prowess. You’d have to factor in that financial muscle to weaken a rival is somewhere in the mindset, as there are undoubtedly cheaper options that would be...

Re: Michail Antonio

He's on course for his most prolific season since joining the club and barring a disaster will play more matches over the course of the season than he has since 2018/2019. I understand that he isn't getting any younger, but I wouldn't be criticising him for this season.

I would assume many of his disciples are already gone. Plenty were on social media cutting up membership cards the day SKS was elected leader, with others following shortly afterwards.

Good player, but a lot of money for a lad approaching his 30s, considering the prices paid for Zouma and Guehi in the summer.

Re: Ajax's goal difference in the Eredivisie [non WHU]

Haller was a victim of his transfer fee. It was a record and north of £40 million. On paper you expect a large return of goals. In reality, he cost twice the price of Hernandez, for a lower return. Ditto Arnie. The difficulties for players like Haller and Anderson are just that but more obvious, and...

Re: Ajax's goal difference in the Eredivisie [non WHU]

Great example of small moments of inconsistency catching you. I think Ajax had back to back 0-0 results, even though they have been racking up 5+ on a reasonably regular basis. If they reserved a goal for those two games, they’d be top.

Well, you said "or... indicates his intention to remain". I was questioning where his own "intentions" came into it?

He was selected for the squad. He was told to go on in the 85th minute. Should he have gone the full Tevez?
I’m not suggesting a course of action. I’m just saying that I think when you take it all into account it’s probably a situation we ought to draw a line under.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window

Lingard being cup-ties either knocks a few bucks of the limited selling price, or indicates his intention to remain. Either way, I don’t think he is as attractive a prospect now, especially with Vlasic‘s recent involvement. Ragnick’s decision to play him is interesting and could have been for a numb...

Re: Declan Rice

I think the way the club is functioning at the moment (at least in the playing side) is encouraging him to remain, and there is little reason to switch. We are providing him with European football, highly ranked in the PL, challenging for cups, and his international slot is secure. Dial the clock ba...

Re: Most overrated and underrated players

Masuaku for both. If Liverpool had picked him up in 2016, I think he might have gone on to be a truly remarkable player. The difficulty for us is we still often try to stick him in as an orthodox left back, which simply doesn’t work. And Moyes is not the only one. Bilic tried it in lieu of Cresswell...

Re: Hypothetical: If The Champions League was a knockout competition from the start?

Unfortunately money talks, and we are only going to see the expansion of tournaments as opposed to contractions. The conference league is an example, and is not a genuine opportunity for a small club to win silverware, but for a mid ranker from a top league to have a European final, while leaving th...
