Re: England -v- Brazil (C4 from 1900)
That's true, but sometimes it is the luck of the draw. Semi finals against Croatia and Denmark? Almost every previous manager would have sold their granny to get that lucky and still he's come back empty-handed. It's like Avram failing to get past Birmingham. Thing is, for England, it isn't. We've a...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024
I think Gibbs-White would be a fantastic signing, my fear is that if he were to be available one of the Sky 6 would take him. He's home grown and proven, perfect for their benches whilst the rest of us scramble around adhering to financial rules. The "Big 6" are also right up against FFP ...

Re: England -v- Brazil (C4 from 1900)
Thought the game was pretty even until the subs happened. Brazil were an interesting one and generated very little unless they were on the counter. Thought we played well and on another day (with Kane and Saka in the side) we would have won. I think the ideal England lineup looks like this: Pickford...

Re: ✍ Welcome Tomas Soucek
He's one of the better finishers at the club. Can't remember where I heard him described as a box and box midfielder (as opposed to box to box), but it's a perfect description of him. He dominates both our box defensively and now he has a defensive midfielder behind him he dominates the opposition o...

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!
Transfer window was a joke - although we did sign a guy Moyes apparently felt is one of the best English midfielders around - but I am struggling to see how that window specifically is the reason we are playing so **** and can’t win a game. We have always been a team, with Moyes at least, that has ...

Genuinely awful refereeing, but we aren't helping ourselves.

Re: David Moyes' Claret and Blue Army!
He'll go 5 at the back now, he has to. Our xGA is pretty much the same as Burnley. Taking out the newly promoted sides, we've got the 3rd worse defence in the league. It solves the left wing problem as well. Back 5 makes a lot of sense with the people that we have available and I'm a little disappo...

Re: January transfer window
I said he moved central. Then went on to say the more he is central the better. 3 or his 5 assists came when. you guessed it - central. The assist for Bowen he dropped in as a 10. Had 3 players ahead of him. 3 Whether you want to call it a number 10, false 9 or centre forward I don't care. That's p...

Re: January transfer window
He moved central off the left. Even Cole agrees. And Cole told TNT Sports how impressed he was by the Moyes tactical tweak (December 23rd, 2:14pm): “Fantastic from David Moyes’ perspective, he done a little tweak I noticed. Paqueta come in off the left hand side and played that false nine role. Str...

Re: January transfer window
Of his last 5 assist, 3 have come after he moved central. 1 game from defending a set piece in which he was central in our box. Nothing to do with playing LM. Vs Man utd it was well observed switching it changed the game. The more he is central the better. If he is a 10 he can drift to either wing ...

Re: ✍ Welcome James Ward-Prowse
Jon I honestly think that is what is making loads of people scratch their heads. he got forward, scored that goal in which, iirc, he made up about 50 plus yards in the build up and managed to get into position to score. Alvarez I think is underrated on here by people who think he can't pass the bal...

Re: January transfer window
I don't understand why after a season and a half of Paqueta playing in the 10 and being pretty average, people are now thinking of moving him when he's having an amazing season as a left CM of a diamond with JWP in a 10 (allowing us to play Soucek, Alvarez and JWP together). Am I going crazy, or is ...

Re: ✍ Welcome James Ward-Prowse
We were playing some great stuff with JWP as 10. No idea why we moved away from it. He is actually a really strong choice as a 10 as well. Good at recycling the ball, good at crossing from the channels and we've seen that he is a goal scorer when given the chance. Alvarez at the base of a diamond wi...

Re: Dimitri Payet vs Lucas Paqueta
They play different roles at a very high level. Payet was a dynamic inside forward, able to create something from nothing and score absolute worldies with free kicks. Paqueta is a central midfielder we're trying to shoehorn into being an attacking mid. He's stupidly press resistant, able to get stuc...
