Re: Cable Street
it's a bit of a misnomer because much of the action took place at Tower Hill, Aldgate and the streets in between - like Leman Street and Minories. I don't think the term Battle of Cable Street was coined till after the war. The Independent Labour Party were the main organisers of the anti-BUF counte...

Re: London Stadium Alternate Name Game
I like "The Ironworks" and "The Foundry".
A more minor change might be "The East London Stadium" or the more traditional, better IMO "East London Ground"

Isn't there a break clause? So every 4 years NI has the chance to exit the Protocol? Think the first opportunity is 2024? Could have the wrong end of the stick

Re: Olympic Stadium Discussion and Questions
Mushy - understand and agree. I was stating what ought to be policy, not what most politicians actually do. So they'll kick the can down the road until the prevailing narractive is the annual (8m?) cost to the taxpayer due to the poor choice of moveable seating. Practical issues such as storage of ...

Re: Olympic Stadium Discussion and Questions
The govt are in a fix. Seems they have three politically unpalatable options.
- Accept large annual loss
- Invest even more in new retractable seating
- Sell to WHU
Also - will the seating definitely need storage in the summer?
The land it was stored on previously will developed within a few years.

Re: The Olympic Park & Sport in General
It's great for spectator and participation sport. I've now run in the stadium, cycled in the velodrome and used the Aquatic centre. Just fantastic. The one sour point is that I believe 'South Lawn', the open space between the orbit and the railway line, will be built on for one of Boris's Olympicopo...

The pitch might be able to take two teams a season, and it might not. We won't be able to tell until after a season of use. That uncertainty might give us a de facto veto for year 2

Re: The 2016/ 2017 European Union In/Out Referendum thread
I'd 60\40 in favour of leaving if it weren't for the freedom of movement, but that is such a big issue as it makes me 90\10. No idea what way it'll go as most people don't seem to have a strong view. Whatever option we choose will have pros and cons. If we do leave I'm sure we'll keep many of the cu...

Not the Kop.
It's the Chicken Supreme for me.
Should attract sponsorship from Knorr's, if nothing else.

Disappointed with the decision to back out of this competition. There may be a hard headed logic, but still a mistake IMO.
Thought the young lads played well though.
The upside is we've got an extra round of the League Cup to look forward to.

Most of their players aren't Andorrans. Could be dark horses.
WHU team never played together before, our fitness advantage probably not as great as would normally be. A cup final for them.
4-1 to us.

A lot of our players will be very physically and mentally drained by yesterdays long game, they won't have slept much either.
I think this will effect our starting line up and style of play.
A least we won though, I think that can make a big difference to how fatigue effects you, odd as it sounds.

I expect we'll see a lot of advertising on that wrap, for us and our sponsors and anyone else who wants to pay. A prime location for such advertising in the park and close to the busy railway line.
So it will be interesting to see who owns it and who gets the revenue it generates.

AC was on standby for the world cup, and perhaps that interfered with his holidays and vital close-season rest. It's feasible that he was granted special dispensation to come back from his holidays a bit later and as a consequence is on a different, delayed, fitness and match practice regime to the ...

Shouldn't be an issue, we did that for the Zarate kid.ironilunga wrote:I don't claim to be ITK but I have heard that the delay in signing the Kouyate kid is an insistence from his agent Mr Miyagi that West Ham representatives slap two coats of whitewash on his fence and wash his car before any deal is signed.

Re: Allardyce: Stick or twist
Been to about half a dozen games this year and have only enjoyed the football side of one of those days. Probably would have gone to a game or two more were that not the case. I think we've a better team this year but have achieved less in relation to that improvement. I find myself sharing the view...
