Fridays and Mondays are crap for long distance travellers such as myself and I have to rule myself out of coming to the games, quite nice for locals though :)

Re: Sports Personality of the Year 2008

Who on here honestly watched Geraint Thomas this year , come on , hands up ? I did - in fact I've followed his career closely for a number of years, both on the road and on track, being a big cycling fan and as he always came across as a very likeable guy, as well as a good servant to his team. He ...

Sad to hear that Paul Sherwen has passed away, at the young age of 62

For many years he and Phil Liggett were the voice of my summer

RIP

Re: Olympic Stadium Discussion and Questions

I went to an NFL in New york a couple of weeks ago, New Yorks Jets vs Indianapolis Colts. I really enjoyed the experience, but a few observations, positive and negative: - beer can be drunk at the seats, however this also meant that specatators barely seemed to stay in their seats for 10 minutes wit...

3. French drivers. They're dangerous. They think tailgating, pulling out without warning and generally driving aggressively is perfectly acceptable. Yes they're pretty rotten - had one gesticulating wildly at me this morning on the autoroute as I pulled into the 'slow lane' as he was attempting to ...

Re: New Tottenham stadium (non-WHU)

Why did Tottenham Homeless FC, the Tramps, choose to play there? I understand none of the other London based Premier League team would have allowed them to play at their stadium and Wembley was not an option, but surely teams like Leyton or Charlton, who need money, would have gone for it? Good poi...

Van der Sar was the master of what you are explaining with a free kick if it beat his wall it was normally two steps and a catch, where as someone like Robinson or Hart it’s a athletic tip over the bar and all the plaudits. Problem with that is it takes its toll on the body hence why they don’t sta...

Re: 2018 Cycling Thread

It's rather looking like five grand tours on the bounce for the Brits  It's just amazing how much progress we've made in the sport in the last thirty years: when I was riding our top riders were thought to be doing well if they got their first year pro contract renewed. When I first started w...

The smartly-dressed businessman giving the 18-year old or so shop girl in WH Smiths in Heathrow T5 yesterday no-end of abuse because he was struggling to use the self-checkout machine, blaming her for there being no till to pay manually, as if it was her policy decision to do this. Whatever your vie...

Detectorists, Eastenders and Press Gang actress Lucy Benjamin having a family holiday at the same hotel as us in Corfu. Unfortunately her poor hubbie took a massive tumble possibly caused by the damp weather today as he had his arm in a sling this afternoon.

I was a bit peckish so popped down to the kiosk in the office building for a snack. It was closed but they thoughtfully left a sign saying 'back in 30 minutes'

When did that 30 minutes start? - 1 minute ago, 29 minutes ago?

Slightly annoyed and hungry.

Watched the Colombia game in the fanzone in Lausanne, the Sweden one in the fanzone in Nyon (near the home of UEFA), with lots of fellow expats/immigrants (depending on how PC you are) Will be aiming to head to the Nyon one again on Wednesday, although I can see my missus, daughter and mother-in-law...
