Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

Scamacca and “main striking threat” 🙂. The guy was literally the worst PL striker on our books last season. I still believe if given 900+ minutes there is every chance Mubama at least matches his output. I worded that wrong really. I meant more "main striking option" as he was first choic...

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

Scamacca was never our main an attacking threat and Lanzini was offering nothing at the end. JWP has also added a new dimension we never had with Rice in the team. I agree. The issue is the depth almost more than the quality. Last year we had a midfield of Rice, Soucek, Paqueta. Reserves were Downe...

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

Has he not? I assumed he'd been in Brazil but was simply unsuccessful in getting anyone signed. If I was to veer into conspiracy theories I'd suggest it was to line up some signings for January when we get some money from potentially selling Paqueta to Man City post betting investigations and we do...

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

I think we've *potentially* had a good window. But we have to face facts that we've lost a proven PL performer in Rice, an established squad member in Lanzini and our main striking threat in Scamacca. We've brought in some gambles. Other than JWP all our signings are utterly unproven in the PL. If t...

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

I know I keep banging on about the overseas players thing, but we only have room for one more at the moment as we have 16 of the 17 overseas spots filled (Fab, Areola, Coufal, Emerson, Kehrer, Aguerd, Ogbonna, Zouma, Mavropanos, Soucek, Alvarez, Paqueta, Fornals, Benrahma, Cornet, Kudus). So any mor...

Always goes over - have to wait for blood tests and stuff. I reckon he'll be announced on Monday all being well. We'll do this fast (by our standards)!

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

If Kudus signs then we can only have one more overseas player. I imagine that's why someone like Maatsen appeals as he is homegrown. I'm sure we've earmarked the last overseas spot for the striker role so anyone else has to be homegrown (or we sell another overseas player maybe).

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

If we sign a non-homegrown striker then we're maxed out on them. Any other signings would have to be homegrown (and someone would have to be left out of the 25 - assume Coventry would be first casualty).

Kehrer can cover many roles
The problem with one player covering many roles is that we're on injury away from having no cover on all but one of those roles.

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

Just read on twitter that ghana didn't qualify for AFCON great news Algeria and Morocco definitely in so that's 2 players down (3 in the unlikely event of En Nesyri). Ghana just need a draw in their last game to qualify. And they're at home to Central African Republic so you'd fancy them to do that!

We need our squad sorted by next Friday
We can sign him after then if we have a spare spot in our squad.

In the world cup he played 70 mins in 1 game before being subbed (after having a mare) and was an unused sub in their other 2 games.

Assuming this deal is done where do we think he plays? LW in place of Benrahma? Up front?

We could lose 4 players if Cornet gets back in the national side. (With Aguerd, Benrahma and En Nesyri if he signed).

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

Indeed. It even takes special players a season in the PL to get up to speed. Just ask Paqueta. Can't be giving Germany's RB away when he's only been with us 5 minutes. He's not Germany's RB. He's a sub at best. Germany currently ranked 15th by FIFA - the worst they've been for years. 2 places below...
