Re: A £20 million plus striker: The summer transfer thread

Mandzukic would be a fantastic move for us - Bilic will know him from Euro 2012 (I think he was his first choice then) so there would be a connection as well.

'he doesn't influence either end of the pitch enough' sounds like stick to me.

There are a lot of posts on here about Noble's perceived ineffectiveness/lack of quality - across the board, not just in this thread.

Re: A £20 million plus striker: The summer transfer thread

It's amazing to me that Noble is getting stick here when the bulk of the general opinion is that this has been his defining season/he should be considered for England/he's essential to West Ham etc etc. Are people here not seeing something? For me, nobody could replace Noble in our team - either fro...

Re: A £20 million plus striker: The summer transfer thread

yeah sorry pal but van der Wiel and Zlatan in the same team? they got into a huge argument a few weeks ago and now PSG want to let him go..they ain''t coming together to west ham..on top of that I don't rate van der Wiel at all..he doesn't play for our national team anymore because of his lack of p...

Re: A £20 million plus striker: The summer transfer thread

I think Roman Neustädter is worth a look. CB/DM, out of contract at Shalke this summer with, as far as I'm aware, nowhere to go. I know we're supposed to be lining up Nordveit, but I think Neustädter is better than him. He'd shore up our DM role but also is accomplished at CB should we get injuries....

Re: A £20 million plus striker: The summer transfer thread

I'm not sure Bony is that much better than Carroll, to be honest. He's also, in my opinion, a similar player. Not what we're looking for if we're looking at Batshuayi/Lacazette as target numero uno.

Re: A £20 million plus striker: The summer transfer thread

1 goal every 120 minutes. Bettered only by Aguero in the league. Better than Vardy. Better than Kane. Directly involved in a goal be it scoring or an assist every 99 minutes. This 'goals in x amount of minutes' stat is great and all, and I think Carroll has been in superb form over the past couple ...

Re: Leicester City v West Ham United: Match Thread

^ The same biased commentary that pretty much cheered Vardy's goal. Any wrestling that went on in our box they highlighted could have been a pen to them, the stuff Huth and Morgan were doing was laughed off by Alan Smith. Can't have been as bad as listening on 5Live - the penalty at the end t...

Re: A £20 million plus striker: The summer transfer thread

Wouldn't touch Grealish with a hooker's fanny. I think we are realistically still naming only minor improvements/strength in depth growth by buying competition for place - Nordveit and Gonul aren't going to make a massive impact on how much quality we have in the squad next season, for me. None of t...

Re: Leicester City v West Ham United: Match Thread

I'd have taken the point going in, so however we got there I'm happy. Would have liked a win, of course, to break this run of score draws, but I'll still take it. Shambolic officiating for both sides, I thought, and the sixth game out of our last seven where the refereeing performance has been as bi...

Re: A £20 million plus striker: The summer transfer thread

You're missing something key there.

------------------------Nordtveit---------------------------

-----------------Noble----------Lanzini------------------

------Tore-----------------------------------Payet--------

-----------------------Ibrahimovic---------------------------

Looks tasty, that.

Re: A £20 million plus striker: The summer transfer thread

I think if you played Obiang deep you could drop Lanzini into the midfield 'two' alongside Noble and have him stroking the ball to the wingers from deep. Then have Payet and Antonio (or Tore, if we sign him) milling about in the space in front of the defence, never settling on a true position.

Re: Leicester City v West Ham United: Match Thread

Sorry, but anybody who wants to lose or draw here to stop Spurs getting back into the title race is silly. United play Villa at home on Saturday so will be four points ahead of us by the time this is played. We HAVE to win to keep our thinning Europa League hopes up. That way we can keep it in our o...

Re: A £20 million plus striker: The summer transfer thread

Depends how quickly they sell. I thought there were financial issues at OM, hence why Batshuayi et al might be available this summer. If they sell and the new owner is minted, that need to sell goes away doesn't it?

Re: A £20 million plus striker: The summer transfer thread

I'm just thinking through our squad. I think we'll see more of Obiang next season in that holding role - this season has probably been one where we've wanted to blood him in a bit, get him used to the league, and then maybe his role will become bigger. With Nordveit coming in there too, we'll have c...

Re: Manchester Utd v West Ham Utd: FAC QF Match Thread 7pm

Sadly, we just weren't good enough after the first half last night. For the first time all season (considering that's after 8 months, an achievement in itself) I felt like Bilic made an error with his mid-gam tactical changes. From a 4-2-3-1 where we were all over them like a rash for a lot of the f...

Re: A £20 million plus striker: The summer transfer thread

Shelvey's like a Gerrard-lite - he'll take a handful of games by the scruff of the neck throughout a season and pull a whole team through a match, but otherwise can be a liability and too often goes for a Hollywood pass and ends up with a Holyrood one. ExWHU talking about a move being potentially li...

Re: A £20 million plus striker: The summer transfer thread

I think Reid, Ogbonna, Collins and Tomkins, with Reece Burke in the wings and getting some game time to eventually easy Collins out, is enough. Our defensive frailties seem to have come from a lack of defensive midfield cover when both Noble and Kouyate are playing higher up the pitch. We looked pr...
