At the end of every season (ie after the final game) move all of your U18 squad into the reserves.

Voila - come the start of the new season you'll have a squad full of brand new U18 players!

There's a freebie at the start of the game called Mutiu (33-year-old Nigerian, I think) who always rates in the high 7's/low 8's for the first season.

Also try a young Brazilian lad called Nelio (23 at the start, IIRC). Turns out pretty useful too ...

Seriously, if you're having trouble as West Ham (God knows I did) try having a go as Chelsea - I got a £41m transfer budget at the start, £31m for the next season nicely supplemented by a further £75m three weeks after that 8-) And being the rich slag that I am I've just spent £44m of that on Joaqui...

Playing as Chelsea, tried to do West Ham a favour by offering £6.5m rated Carlton Cole (who had just been called up for England) to them for £250k ... got told 'the deal doesn't represent value for money' ...

UTJ, what year are u in and whats your starting line-up? 2011/12 now; I've done another season since my post and somehow managed to win the UEFA Cup but couldn't get higher than 6th in the league again. Team was something like: Saja; De La Cuesta, Demichelis, Vanden Borre, Murray (regen); Poulsen, ...

lock-out tactic anyone ? As a very rough tip - set all of your defenders mentality to 8 and their closing down to 10. Then set your defensive line (in team instrcutions) to about 12-14. Do this with your DMC too if you have one (or more) and you should be sound. Plus the other usual things like mak...

I'm amazed at some of the free transfers you can get. Having just been promoted i've signed Luke Young (who turned down more money and European football with Charlton!), Hartson (said he was pleased to join such a "big club"), signed Rustu Recber and currently have Shearer thinking about ...

Sounds good, UTJ  I use two formations in my real team and on FM. The one that you play, it seems, and this one: 4-3-3, with arrows backwards and out left and right for the left/right forwards (perfect for amr/l and fwr/r. Also an arrow back on the central midfielder, rarely forward runs, but...

Oh, and try setting the creativity stat for each player to the creative stat in their profile. This ensures they don't try to do to much, or not do enough when they have the ability.

There's a great thread running on the SI forum concerning mentality and closing down - if you're having trouble try using the following figures (roughly): Defence - mentality 7 closing down 9 Midfield - mentality 11 closing down 13 Attack - mentality 15 closing down 17 Basically the idea is to have ...

In CMs in the past, I've taken West Ham to the League, Cup, League Cup and European Cup in one season. In this version, I've taken us to defeat at Cardiff :( I'm having a problem getting my formation working and can't get why it doesn't. Cort <------- Harewood ^ | ^ Sheringham ^ | | Etherington Cha...

I've finally got us into the UEFA Cup by virtue of finishing 6th in my 4th Premiership season (had previously finished 14th, 16th and 12th respectively).

Just made the league stage by walloping Auxerre in the first round!
