Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

In our system because of how defensive and passive we are JWP would be no better than Downes, expect with a better set piece delivery.

It really is going to be a tough season to watch.

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

I suspect wages and the wage structure is a problem with bringing in new players. How much was Rice on? You bring in Mctominay and JWP or whoever who will both want more than what Rice was getting. In fact any 30m plus signing will probably be our highest wage earners going forward. Dont know what t...

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

I’ve now written two really long posts about JWP and I’m not even one of the ones desperate for him. I just think some of the posts about him have become completely shot of objectivity. We have one CM I’d want to start in the league, one who’s fine but cannot be first choice and another who isn’t u...

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

Goal involvement for a poor Southampton side every 3.8 matches. And doing it all whilst being a Premier League player bar 1 goal in the FA Cup ad a Champions hip player starting out. It's definitely something to write home about for the price he'll likely go for, on top of everythingbelse he does i...

Why do you keep mentioning this. It's nothing to write home about.

Similar to Mark Noble and nobody was calling him prolific.

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

You do know we won't have more than 30% possession with Soucek/Mctominnay/Gallagher/JWP etc in midfield.

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

I kind of wish the transfer market was like a computer game. Buy a load of cheaper players from abroad, sell them on in a year or two, make huge profits, then buy Haaland and Mbappe. You can certainly do with with our defensive midfielder. Big, strong, athletic central midfielders are ten a penny ar...

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

All the fans that don't want ward prowse will change there minds when he bends in one from 30 yards against arsenal or spurs or anybody really. Also payet was 28 like people are saying and we fans loved him he didn't have no pace. I've posted this a lot but Payet in the season before we bought him ...

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

I’m completely bemused by the disdain for JWP that I’m reading on here. He’s 28 yrs old ffs, which means that we’d be buying someone bang in their prime, not some aging has-been. He’s got England caps to his name. He’s one of the best dead ball specialists in the business - something we’ve been ser...

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

JWP walks into our first team and improves us, thats sort of all the matters really. He's a better footballer than Soucek, can play right across the midfield, including defensively or attacking. He's not the best midfielder in the world, but hes a good one. OK. Tom Davies walks into our first team ...

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

OK so we are extremely passive and just surrender possession to the other team.

How are we going to get up the field with James Ward Prowse? He is as slow as a tractor.

I do wonder if some of you watch any other football.

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

Higher quality of player. Paqueta was the best player we signed last season and unsurprisingly was the highest fee. He was also the one that people scoffed at the thought of him ever coming to West Ham. We waited for him and it worked out so well. I don’t think I agree that we have seven holes but ...

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

Don’t want half those guys. And I’d be hard pressed to be ‘delighted’ with most of the other half. Vlahovic is better. But you only have to glance at the obvious comments that would be made after that initial post to see what the problem is. The inferiority complex we have is insane. Sign mid-table...

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

I could understand the negativity if we was being linked with Pedri and Camavinga but come on, most of the players being discussed in the last few weeks are very underwhelming to me. Yes Mctominay is better than Downes and Alverez is better than nobody but I would rather wait a bit and see what else...

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

I agree to some extent, particularly with Brighton and Brentford on genuine unknowns. But Palhinha was an established Portuguese international playing for a huge European club. That type of signing shouldn't be beyond our resources. Indeed Soucek and Paqueta suggests we have done it before. Clearly...

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

Just because Palinha played well for Fulham, suited their tactics and had high stat percentages for the way the team was set up doesn't mean he would be a success here. Just because Scamacca played well for Sassasulo suited their tactics and had high stat percentages for the way the team was set up ...

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

You don't play 100+ games in midfield for Man U if your passing and ability to keep hold of the ball is iffy he is used to playing in a possession dominant team that has a lot of the ball and is well versed in using it quickly and incisively No. Don't agree. McFred was critised as the glaring weakn...

No chance he drops a division.

Re: Summer 2023/24 Transfer Thread

Hate to bring him up again. Maguire. Everyone seems to say "we need leaders". Other than being in possession of the captain's armband... Did he pull the team out of the mire by the scruff of their neck? Did he perform to the highest level, train best, allow his gameplay to encourage other...

"We need leaders"

Okay I agree with that. So what makes Maguire a great leader? Hasn't he been a shambles as United captain?
