Re: The Johnson Government 2019-202?
Whether £2300 a month is enough depends almost entirely on what your rent or mortgage payment is really. If you owned your own home, or the mortgage wasn't huge a family of 3 could be more than comfortable, theoretically anyway. If 40-50% of that figure is going on rent then different story. My wif...

Re: The Johnson Government 2019-202?
Bit harsh on McDonald's workers; they have double sided grills so don't even flip the burgers. She is right though, how can it be that you can quit your job, work 22 hours a week and claim benefits to be better off than before. She takes home more than me a month, might have to sack my wife off and...

Re: The Golf Thread
Played Garon park last week. Course was in great nick. Blobbed the first but still got 18 points on the front and then 19 on the back. Happy with that. Handicap went out to 23 now it’s at 21 after that round. Playing Maylands Thursday and then toot hill Saturday. One thing I hate about WHS is the 9...

Another Tory being rapey. Not a secret who it is either, and I've never liked the man. Always thought he was a ****. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-61490957 It has been leaked a few places However DL asked us yesterday not to mention it further on here apart who it might be So in respect fo...

Re: The Johnson Government 2019-202?
Thanks, interesting that it's changed but again that was decade ago, are the companies investing anymore compared to levels they were? If so the snp prob don't see a risk compared to what it was.

Re: The Johnson Government 2019-202?
It's just over a decade since they had higher profits so hardly beyond imagination. Back then the Tories imposed a windfall tax. The SNP said it was a terrible idea, would hit investment and jobs. Turned out they were right that's exactly what happened. Now the Tories say it will hit investment and...

Re: The Johnson Government 2019-202?
That’s true Mumbles. It goes beyond that though. I think you’ll agree when I say this is a government that knows who it is there to serve - themselves and their ilk. Putting up a case, even if it’s a very poor one, to not hit energy giants with a windfall tax is just part of that. Apparently Sunak ...

Re: The Johnson Government 2019-202?
Inflation at 9%. Highest for forty years. Despite his protect-our-sort second nature Sunak will end up doing a windfall tax. He’s just so out of touch that he doesn’t know it yet. It’ll be just another one of their u-turns where if they had any nous they wouldn’t have had to make it because they’d ...

Re: The Johnson Government 2019-202?
They were vehemently opposed to a windfall tax when the blues brought it in last time profits were off the scale. Describing it as a short term populist move and Danny Alexander's political epitaph (lib Dems in Scotland were even more against it), they were pressuring Hammond just a couple of years...

A very wise point! If you had storm damage or something where it gave way and they could prove you knew about it .. you wouldn't get a penny paid outJohnny Byrne's Boots wrote: ↑Tue May 17, 2022 10:00 pmEspecially as your insurance company now know that you know it's faulty.

Re: The Johnson Government 2019-202?
That's because profit has been off the scale. The windfall tax would make a real difference to the poor in society and the firm's involved would still make millions.
It's just the blues looking after their mates and investments

Re: Tiling a roof - Find a tradesperson sites- Which one?
To the OP it's the unfortunate luck of house owning, best to get it down now than before it becomes too bad and ruins more of the house and costs more We had a leaky roof. Spent a few £1000 trying to fix the leak.. 1 roofer removed and capped a chimey .. the next assured me he had made it water tigh...

Re: Tiling a roof - Find a tradesperson sites- Which one?
Damn, I should have become a roofer if a job which you quote £5k is too small to be worth doing!! Some trades people in my experience can let you down, I have found electricians to be the worst, I've had at least 3 visits in the past to get a quote and 2 of them never bothered getting back in touch...
