Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.

Or we sign someone who doesn't do everything Soucek can do but is simply better at football and so makes us better... ... at one aspect of the game. That's the point. Yes you improve the middle third, but you weaken us in the other two thirds. You can compensate for that, but it probably means at l...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.

Didn't something similar happen with Zouma and Chelsea ended up paying a lump of money? Just takes time to work those kind of things out. Agree with WLH, the keeper we choose needs to complement the way we are going to play. Pope is an excellent shot stopper, but Areola's all round game is better (i...

No doubt we will find out in the next few days. As UTJ put above, someone has planned this for maximum impact.

Re: The Johnson Government 2019-202?

If you can think of any kind of half-decent reason why, when office juniors were getting multiple fines for attending these events, Johnson wasn’t given an FPN for, and this is just one example, the one with the photos then, then like Prince Charles, I’m all ears. Legal advice. As I posted a page o...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.

I think having a bad bench Yesterday has got some focused on adding average players to make that stronger. We’ve just finished 7th and back into Europe. Dennis and Brownhill is what I would expect to be talked about had we just been promoted. Problem is the next level up won't necessarily be happy ...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.

I have no faith in us signing a player that is close to the quality of Rice, and honestly, I have little faith in us signing a player that can replicate the impact Bowen has had. I know we signed Bowen ourselves but I just wouldn’t have confidence in striking gold like that again. So because of tha...

Re: ⚽ Brighton & Hove Albion vs West Ham Utd: match thread

Tells it's own story. I'm starting to have serious doubts about Soucek. The weaknesses are beginning to outweigh the strengths. I didn't see the game, but isn't a big part of the Lanzini role to make Soucek look better? Ditto Fornals. Those numbers say they were hitting passes they shouldn't have b...

Re: ⚽ Brighton & Hove Albion vs West Ham Utd: match thread

So you'd rather focus on the league and hope for the same prize as winning the cup but without the trophy? It's the same amount of games as the Europa League +1 play off tie before the group stage. And more chance of resting players in the group matches. And more European experience. Oh and more mo...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.

Yes, that's what professional clubs do...like a business they set their targets and get them before another rival jumps in...something that amateurs GSB just doesn't understand... OK so let's say they did that two months ago. What European competition should we have based it on as we could have bee...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.

A lot is made of the downside of a small squad, but what about the upside? Players want to play and fielding a consistent XI is beneficial in terms of understanding and cohesion. When you watch teams like Liverpool and Man City who rotate a lot, then they look disjointed at times and that is with ne...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.

Dick Van Dijk is pretty good there. Even our very on Winston was a beast at LCB! So we just need to sign the best centre half in the world... Joking aside, it isn't the right footedness so much as they are dealing with it near our own 18 yard box and with Cresswell too far away to help offer an eas...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.

We’d shipped 2 against the likes of Newcastle, Palace and Brentford before September had ended. Ogbonna’s injury wasn’t helpful but it would be self-defeating to believe we were watertight before then. Don't think anyone was saying it was perfect, but we were bedding in Zouma and Coufal wasn't fit....

Spurs was the rumour with Arsenal also sniffing around. Both could do with a central midfielder who progresses the ball.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.

Kamara is an interesting one. I'd have thought a better team would have been interested, either he impresses and is sold in two years or he crashes and they're lumbered with big wages. £150k a week, is he better than Rice or Soucek? I guess we'll find out! Does this mean Douglas Luiz is available? ...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.

Losing Ogbonna in November basically ruined our PL campaign. It was the catalyst for the season coming to a slow decline. For a brief moment with Zouma and Ogbonna, we looked like a top 4 defence, at least the CB position. We had enough for the EL still thanks to so much effort from the players but...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.

Why is it either stick with the players or sign mercenaries? As you said, there is a delicate balance needed so I don’t get why you’ve gone to an extreme in that regard. Replacing Fabianski, Dawson, Cresswell and Lanzini in the starting lineup isn’t overkill. It’s necessary. I’d also aim to get Sou...
