Re: ⚽ GNK Dinamo Zagreb v West Ham Utd: match thread

Excellent performance by both the team and the management - Moyes got that line-up just right tonight.
Cresswell, Rice, Zouma all superb, but a special mention has to go to Soucek, totally dominant tonight.

Looks like Alves and Coventry are the main contenders to be in and around the first team squad, at the moment.

Re: Declan Rice

There was a moment on our left side last night when Maguire stopped to applaud Rice after he dealt with the Danes there. Not only Maguire, Shaw was also patting him on the back. Don't get the criticism of his performance yesterday - just because one or the other Danish player managed to take the ba...

I hate Xhaka with a passion, but he was world class tonight.
Great performances too from Akanji, Freuler and Zuber.
And that result so much serves Pogba right for that goal celebration.

Very impressed by the Austrians last night - Arnie hasn't lost it, and apart from him I thought Schlager and Sabitzer were excellent. Both play for clubs in Germany that have qualified for Champions League next season though.

Hamnet - Maggie O'Farrell

I don't normally post about every book I read, but this one deserves a mention.
I loved every single page of it, a magnificent achievement.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2021

The England-Croatia game was the first time I'd seen Caleta-Car, and I can't say I was particularly impressed. I know it's only the impression of one match, but he seems to me to be what the Germans - in reference to footballers - call "hüftsteif": stiff at the hips.

Re: Match #10: Spain v Sweden (8pm, Monday 14 June)

The longer that game went on, the more sympathy I had for the Swedes - fantastic defensive performance, and I thought it would have been a travesty had Spain scored in added-on time. Great game from the Swedish goalkeeper.

Hadn't seen him play before, but thought he was hugely impressive tonight. As was Berardi.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2021

People seem very keen to show players the door. Our squad is too thin as it is. You may think its a good deal to send Yarmelenko off somewhere for £5m but what will we get as a replacement? Something of similar quality, who doesnt know the team as well would be my guess. I think we should have done...

Douglas Stuart - Shuggie Bain A brilliant and totally immersive depiction of post-industrial 80s Glasgow and the defiant human spirit in the midst of hardship, poverty and addiction. I imagine some might find this oppressively sad and tough going, but I really loved it and found the world and the c...

Don't know if it's been mentioned before, but this was the eleventh time this season that we scored three or more goals in a premier league match. Remarkable.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2021

With Hwang Hee-Chan, there are probably six players that he's behind at Leipzig - Forsberg, Sabitzer, Nkunu, Sorloth, Poulsen, and Olmo. All are scoring goals and assisting, they all have between 8 and 13 goals/assists this season, and are rotated as well - Olmo has 25 starts, but the others range ...

Re: ⚽ Newcastle Utd vs West Ham Utd: match thread

This was the game where our injuries caught up with us. Had to happen sometime, and it's actually surprising that it hasn't before now. But we badly missed Rice, Cresswell and Masuaku today, and with Ogbonna lacking in match sharpness, it was always going to be a tough ride. I was particularly disap...

Re: Welcome Jesse Lingard

Fantastic debut. What impressed me most about his performance was his awareness of the space around him when he got the ball and his movement in that space. Also so aware of movement of players around him, Benrahma in particular. Think that at Man Utd heÄs been a victim of their need for new players...

Noble is club captain, of course he gets the armband when he comes on. Same as at other clubs. Henderson at Liverpool will get given their armband if he's substituted on.

Rumours in Germany linking us with Alassane Pléa of Gladbach. Wasn't in squad for their match against Bayern on Friday, despite apparently being fit. No idea if there's anything behind this, but thought it worth a mention as he's a good player.
