Re: Mobile phones

Always makes me scratch my head seeing those who plead poverty, yet are still able to justify having the latest phone every year or two. I think a lot of it is because phone companies have normalised the leasing of phones. Can't think of any other household tech that you lease, but people still ban...

Re: Beer/Lager/Cider/Spirits/Wine.. Thread

Made my first trip back to Upton Park since May 2016 yesterday. What a renovation The Boleyn has had. More importantly though the tap selection was probably the best from any pub I have been to in this country for ages. Had a Krombacher followed by a Litovel Premium. Very very good, highly recommen...

Re: Beer/Lager/Cider/Spirits/Wine.. Thread

Had a pint of Anspach and Hobday's London Black at the weekend. Anyone else had it? Well worth a look if you see it on anywhere. Not a massive Guinness fan by any stretch but it is always my go-to in pubs with nothing else on. I would definitely opt for a pint of this over Guinness from now on if it...

Yeah I like Spaten, especially for £1.79.

Will do! Looking to cut beer expenditure at the moment.

Noticed a few Oktoberfest ones in Aldi yesterday - a few own brand ones but they had Spaten too for £1.79.

Yeah, Tiny Rebel are pretty awful these days.

I quite like Yonder from Somerset as well for stuff in that vein.

Re: Beer/Lager/Cider/Spirits/Wine.. Thread

Had a 2/3 of this the other day in my local Micropub. Maddest beverage I've had for a while. Was like lime with mint. Very enjoyable but I'm not sure i could drink more than two in a 2/3 glass. https://vaultcity.co.uk/products/key-lime-pie-1 Quite liked the Vault City beers I've had. They did an Ir...

Used to love that stuff when backpacking in oz. That and Little Creatures used to get knocked back with regularity. Quite common to see Little Creatures in London now as well actually. Little Creatures have a brewery and tap room in Kings Cross now. Keep meaning to pop in. Not had that Coopers beer...

Anyone ever go to Beer Merchants Tap before games? They usually have a couple of interesting Belgian things on. Brasserie Dupont and Brasserie de la Senne at the moment.

+1 for Thornbridge Jaipur! Love that beer. Can usually find cans of it in Tesco and Sainsburys if you don't want to commit to a full keg without trying it. 5.9% - that extra 0.9% really makes a difference.

Re: Beer/Lager/Cider/Spirits/Wine.. Thread

If ever you see a beer with Cascade hops, be really wary. It's rare there's a good beer with Cascade hops in the brewsheet. Usually found in pale ales, IPAs and Golden Ales. Really? Can think of a few beers I like with Cascade hops. Had a Hop Head yesterday and it was very good. And just having one...

Blimey! I now remember that, too. Used to sometimes pop in there, in preference over over-rated Tayyabs, before an evening match. It was left a burned out wreck, that shop, for years after. Yeah - Tayyabs. I like the food well enough, but never understood the queues. Most unrelaxing place to eat ev...

Mirch Masala is a chain; there was one in Norbury, too, but they had one run in too many with either Border Control (getting raided by filling their kitchen with people on moody papers) or Environmental Health (poor food hygiene standards). It closed down and the premises are now occupied by anothe...

Will have to have a visit to Dosa and Chutney; I live across the Streatham divide in West Norwood, so we do occasionally head over to Tooting for a curry. Re: Curry

Bengali 'Indian' cooking is too heavy on sugar in the sauce for my personal taste, so I'd struggle to name many places in East London that I'd actually recommend. Back 25 years ago (blimey!) there was an effort at slightly refined versions of Indian food at a place called Cafe Spice Namaste, which ...

Re: Beer/Lager/Cider/Spirits/Wine.. Thread

The British just cannot brew lager mate. I've come to that conclusion and nothing I've tasted apart from the two mentioned above will make me change my mind. Don't know if it's the water, or just a lack of know-how, but it's definitely not working whatever they're doing. Lots of British places brew...

Couple of Liverpool supporting mates were pretty gracious but seeing lots of comments elsewhere complaining that we "Didn't let them play" which usually translates as "Didn't let them win".
