I do this on the district line.Arch Dandy wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2019 10:11 am People who walk down the train so they can be at the front when it reaches the station. Just chill out people it's a 20 second walk at most, it irrationally annoys me.
I intentionally sit near the back, as that the area that generally empties out first, so I'm more likely to get a seat. Then when the train nears the station, I will walk up the train to be near the front, as that's where the exit is.
I don't do it because I'm an eager beaver, or that I have an irrational need to be first out of the station, it's because I then get a bus, and it's annoying if I miss the bus because I was walking the full length of the platform at the station needlessly.
Besides, commuting is a chore anyway. All the little things you can do to make it that little bit quicker are important psychologically sometimes.

You're irritating. Pushing through people, stepping over legs then joining a mass huddle at the end of the train to get into another mass huddle at the barriers that everyone else on the train joins anyway. Bring back carriages.sendô wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2019 10:26 am I do this on the district line.

Re: Little things that irritate you
Wrong on all counts, I'm afraid.
I'm near the end of the line, so the wide, spacious carriages are normally nearly empty by the time I walk up, so no "pushing through people", "stepping over legs" or "joining a mass huddle". Instead it's gliding gracefully along a wide, empty train, and then standing by a door somewhere near the front.

By the time the train pulls into Brentwood it's almost empty.

I stay on the train wherever I get on, if before rush hour I will walk up or down the platform to make the distance shorter for when I get off.
Friday night, one of the last trains out of Liverpool St, so many pissed people making far too much noise, that was very irritating. Although 3 guys playing oneupmanship pissed on the way home made me smile, I think the winner was that he banged 4 girls at the same time, all models - best bit was he got up for a p and a woman sitting behind him said hello Tom as he walked past, his demeanour changed completely and he sobered up very quickly, f*** knows who she was to him, but he looked mortified

Re: Little things that irritate you
Road works, more particularly the planning of them
My 15 mile journey to work in the grim north takes 25-30 minutes during May-August. In winter with the school/uni's back and the increased pre-Christmas traffic that doubles.
So what do they do? Plan 8-12 week roadworks in 6 different places on my usual route (I can get this down to four if I try others).
Why the hell not do it in the quieter times when the Universities have finished and traffic is much, much lower.
Makes not sense at all and is costing the economy a fortune in lost hours as well as annoying the hell out of me!
Three days in this week, I've spent over 7 hours in the car just to get to work (I'd use the train if the times in the evening where not so pathetic)

One of these is super offensive and racist. The other is super hilarious and right-on.
