(not worth its own thread, but interesting 'fact')

They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot & then once a day it was taken & sold to the tannery. If you had to do this to survive you were "piss poor."

But worse than that were the really poor folk who couldn't even afford to buy a pot; they "didn't have a pot to piss in" & were the lowest of the low.

In the posh bits of the Home Counties, the singular of house is 'hice'.

They are not (mostly).

The description is usually to give you some idea what the replacement for meat's texture is like. My vegan "Fish fingers" taste nothing like fish but have the texture of fish and the breadcrumb coating.

Some veggie/vegan meat replacements do taste a bit like meat as some vegan's/veggies like it. They like the taste of meat but don't want to cause pain/suffering and death that killing animals to get it. So they eat a meat flavoured and tasting substitute.

Most vegan substitute meat (tofu/soya/seitan/Tempeh etc) does not have a flavour - it's the flavour of the spices/sauce/flavourings you cook marinate it in that give it that flavour.

For example I have vegan soy chunks that I can give a curry flavour one day or a chilli flavour the next, depending how and what I cook it with.
