The Hercules Pillars, Great Queen St. WC2B
Been past this place a few times but never during the week. Popped in for a couple of pints of Neck Oil and watched the cricket for a hour.
Lot of mason's in there. But kept themselves to themselves.
Rather pleasant. 8/10

The Crosse Keys is probably the least "city boys" pub in the square mile other than Hamilton Hall which is just full transients.
You get a good mix in there, but the service is horrific. When you have the Jampot in spitting distance as well as The New Moon, The Lamb, The Ship and The Cock and Woolpack others are welcome to a Wetherspoons.
Last pub I was in was the Golden Bowler in Lee on Solent. Was in there last Sunday for lunch. Proper old school. They even had a meat raffle.
My mixed grill was handsome.

Nell of Old Drury, Covent Garden:
Swift Friday visit, first customers of the day it seemed. The choice of beer wasn't great but the taps had a sort of old school aesthetic which was nice. The Guinness was excellent, the inside made up of an old school bar, couple of other seats and a load of theatre memorabilia. Average price for Guinness in the area and the landlord was a very pleasant chap. 7/10.

Often pop in there at lunchtime if there is sport on as apart from The George it is the closest pub to me that has Sky. Was in there a fair bit during the Asheswestham, eggyandchips wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2019 7:26 am The Hercules Pillars, Great Queen St. WC2B

The Eastbrook, Dagenham.
My local, so obviously there’s a hint of bias here, but sod it.
Taken over by new owners 3 months ago, following a turbulent few years, when closure was a distinct possibility. And what a job they’ve done. Cleaned the place up, installed new beers, with the promise of more to come. Converted the smaller, virtually unused front bar, into a sports bar, with 5 screens. Was great to see 40 odd people in there for our game against Villa, when not too long ago you struggled to get anyone in at all.
A newly installed carvery, with a proper home cooked roast on a Sunday is a welcome addition.
Decent pint of 61 Deep. A friendly atmosphere and still the lovely wood panelled interiors make this place the best by a long, long way once more in the area.
9/10

I don't think I've been in the Eastbrook for a decade. I honestly thought it'd shut down.

Another vote for the Mitre. Been in there a few times and was a regular in the mid 90s when I was working on site more or less across the road. Love the place and fallen out of there a few times a little bit too well oiled.Pop Robson wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2019 12:09 pm Another trip to Ye Olde Mitre off Hatton Garden,

I work literally around the corner from Ye Olde Mitre. A new landlady took over about 3 years ago I think. It is tiny but is normally busy after work. I have noticed that quite a few younger drinkers go there now. The staff have these iPad things and can take your drinks order for you without the need to go to the bar which is handy.
Didn't realise it was in Snatch until I re-watched it last year.
Didn't realise there is a tree in the corner inside the pub either.

Was drinking round Borough Market last night.
Southwark Tavern
Not a bad pub, service was quick and a nice pint of Peroni. 8/10
Kaztemjammer / The Hop Exchange
Really like this place. Great selection of German beer and a good atmosphere too. They have live bands there too but wasn't there last night. 8.5/10

Goat and Tricycle Bouremouth 7/10
10 ales on and they did the 3rd of s pint paddle job, although as a Wadsworths boozer 2 of the 3 have to be Wdasworh beers
Price wise no more than £4 a pint
Veggie burger and chips £12.95, which was nice enough but not a £13 pub meal, more like £9-10 tops they could have added a side salad to fill the plate

In my day you would have had a **** kicked out of you for wearing white socks unless you were playing some kind of sport.Crouchend_Hammer wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2019 1:09 pm They didn't a couple of years ago, but now it is all about white socks

I'll check the Royal Oak out next time I'm up there. Always handy to know a decent pub in that area.LincolnshireHammer wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2019 9:36 am I love the Royal Oak in Borough further down the high street.

Over the past few weeks I have been accompanying my 14 year old daughter into town and whilst I kill a few hours waiting for her I have been watching cricket & rugby in various locations around the west end
The Rising sun - Tottenham ct rd -6/10 bit touristy
The Hope Fitzrovia - one street back from TCR welcoming cosy bar watched the England rugby, nice feel to the place nice selection of Cornish ale ( not just the normal Doom) and serves pies during the week solid 8
The Jack Horner TCR an okay Fullers pub - visit made interesting by watching mad local arguing with the bar staff about a pint that was ‘in’ from the previous session.
Any hidden gems worth a go to kill a few hours on a Sunday lunchtime ?

Katsenjammers smells of cheap pine disinfectant and German sausages. It's also full of those that cant handle their beer.
In that neck of the woods I like the Market Porter, The Wheatsheaf and The George. The latter was another one of Dickens old haunts- the pisshead.
