Great pics TOMoS ... some nice reminders of warmer times of the year. The Anglesey one is great, nice dramatic clouds, which with the rocks, gives a great sense of perspective.

Thanks - took the Anglesey shot quite soon after buying the camera , didn't really know what the settings did etc and to be perfectly honest I didn't notice how good the clouds were looking when I pressed the shutter - I darkened them a bit in Lightroom for effect but other than that it's as is .pablo jaye wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 10:11 pm Great pics TOMoS ... some nice reminders of warmer times of the year. Had to play about with the Image Sharing site before I could post my pics .

Re: KUMB Amateur Photography Thread 2019
Need some advice from you experts. Camera is Canon EOS 60D with 18-55 lens.
I really need a lens that I can zoom in from a little distance. I photograph a lot of butterflies and birds but feel I might get better results if I stood back a bit.
I’ve read there’s a difference between a telephoto and zoom lens?
Was looking at something up to 300mm? What do you think!
Any help or links welcome
Edit, just been looking at extension tubes. Worth thinking about?

A 70-200mm would be fine for birds , or a cheaper 70-300mm , but I'm guessing it depends how far away the bird is - once you invest in something like a 300mm or 500mm [ both quite / very expensive ] you're then stuck with them - if you buy a 70-200mm you'll have a more versatile lens .jevs wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2019 8:42 am Need some advice from you experts. I've managed to take quite detailed photos of butterflies with a 16-85mm but I did have to get within about 2ft of the subject then you'll find that such a lens won't focus properly .
For Macro shots you have to buy a purpose built lens [ I bought a Tamron 90mm ] .

Try this - it's brilliant.

Took these with it. It's a Zoom lens, but with Macro. Also a perfect walkaround lens - won't need anything else on your camera.

I took these with a 55-200mm which cost me £49 on Ebay when I first started taking photos , it's also hand-held so not a great photo but an example of what you can achieve with a cheaper lens .

Boley Hill in Rochester at sunset this evening. Taken with my new Canon 10-18mm lens my wonderful in-laws bought me for Christmas.

Here's the full set Samba, if you're interested. For some reason, you have to scroll left to see them in order. Stoopid facebook.

Been on the cards for years DL,as someone born and bred 2-300 yards from your gaff can remember playing as a kid down there before the tunnel and estate were even thought of and Upnor was untouched by developers.Even remember when the "Arethusa" was moored off the pier

It's so important to get the framing right & clearly, your framing is excellent, DL.
