Re: Beer/Lager Thread
Has anyone started buying in their Christmas drink yet? My girlfriend has already bought me a bottle of Gentleman Jack and I picked up two litres of Baileys a couple of weeks back, one is already away!

Re: Beer/Lager Thread
Got a bottle of that for my birthday along with a bottle of Honey JD. Still haven't opened either. I'm a beer man, not really into bourbon.

Was perusing a bottle of that today (bit of a celebration tonight) but though I like JD I don't think I want honey in it.

Re: Beer/Lager Thread
no to the honey.
Scottish mate had a bottle of Gentleman Jack given to him, and it is a very nice dram. and since we were single malt drinkers it wasn't out of place at all...
only 4 months and I'm off back to 'ouston for 6 weeks (hopefully) and I can tell you the IPA is going to take a right pasting !!!!!!!!

Re: Beer/Lager Thread
Thanks FreeWheeling for the Trappist info a page back, and Collector too.
Have dabbled with the Rochefort and the English Tynt one since. Still grappling with them to be honest, I'm leaning towards the Orval one as my favoured monkish brew for now, its grown on me the most.

Re: Beer/Lager Thread
Apart from JD I hardly ever touch Whiskey....but I've been finding myself rather partial to a drop lately. This Christmas I'm going to get a few decent bottles in.

Oooh nice. I do like their Rochefort 8. My go to Trappist along with Westmalle.FreeWheeling wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2019 8:11 pm went to Adinkerke today , so picked up 24 bottles of Rochefort 6
I've tried a few lately:
Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel which was absolutely superb. Really impressed.
Bottle of Adnam's Ghost Ship - really good stuff. Very hoppy.
Shepherd Neame Whistable Bay - amazing stuff, really nice.
Golden Hen - very nice indeed.
Guinness Export - surprisingly good, even at 7.5% !
Hobgoblin Gold - disappointed. Pretty poor IMO
Abbott Reserve - much better than the normal Abbott Ale. Very fruity and moreish.
Bacchus Kriek Bier - they've started doing it down Morrisons and it's very nice. Even the missus likes it !
Also ordered a load form Beer Hawk - mostly Weissbier, Gueze and a bottle of Trippel Karmalite which is one of the best Belgian blonde beers out there at the moment.
I'm thinking about doing my own youtube channel reviewing beers but I'd probably end up too pissed to be making any sense.

Re: Beer/Lager Thread
Now you’re talking! I have invested considerable effort into Scotch Whisky over the years and have realised that.... more research is required before my thesis is ready. However, having always decried Glenmorangie as a bit thin and insipid my head has been turned by their Quinta Ruban bottling (available from Ocado) which is aged in Port casks and therefore combines two of my favourite pastimes, drinking and getting drunk! Or, whisky and Port, you decide.

Re: Beer/Lager Thread
tried a port cask - I think it might have been Balvenie - and wasn't impressed personally.
I do love a Balvennie though, don't get me wrong. but I think my taste's moved into bourbon after trying a couple of nice ones.
gonna give the Elijah Craig and the Buffalo Trace a crack when I get back. my mates only away for 3 weeks so I reckon I am going to have to crack on a bit...

Re: Beer/Lager Thread
This is fantastic stuff, as is most Kriek bier. I got through a couple of bottles of Bosteels Aud Gueze which is probably the best out there and have a bottle of Lindemanns and Bacchus to get through this weekend. Fantastic stuff. God I love Belgian beer !!EugeneSpeed wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2019 10:23 pm FAO Belgian beer fans: beer shop near me (Tooting) is getting a load of Cantillon in on Friday so going to grab a few bottles for Xmas.
