Top Shelf !

Post by daytimedave » Fri Nov 22, 2019 4:56 pm

whats your favourite spirit ?

im no big spirit drinker , but from time to time will look at the top shelf.

always nice to see a bottle of OBAN 14 year old. but usually quite rare in most normal boozers .
failing that im happy with a' Glenfiddich' ,
if no malts about , a 'Jameson's ' will do .

went through a rum stage , Cockspur used to hit the spot .

or maybe a 'Baileys' n ice after a curry

We're currently living directly opposite a distillery . :)

Glen Moray is also situated in Elgin , the Macallan Distillery is around 10 miles up the road .

When I was in hospital back in July the patient opposite me had been admitted due to 5 broken ribs sustained by falling off a ladder , hitting a piece of scaffolding and landing on the concrete floor below , he was working on the roof of the Glenmorangie distillery in Tain .

When I was a drinker I'd buy a bottle of something at Christmas and New Year , Glenmorangie was my favourite Scots Whisky but I'd say my favourite spirit was Jamesons Irish Whisky .

I quite enjoy a port from the top shelf and have recently discovered white port which tastes nice as a long drink with tonic and a slice of ginger.

I recently started working for a Spirits company - Bacardi in fact - I will be getting 12 bottles before Christmas as part of my allowance and I am looking forward to trying a few new malts - Brackla, Devron, Aultmore & Craigellachie.

My favourite spirit at the moment is another Bacardi product, Grey Goose Vodka.

Some say that Scotch Whisky is quite often too fiery & something like Jamesons is much smoother.
I'm really not a drinker at all but I've always quite liked a Monkeyb special. I now can appreciate a single malt (with water) as well, Irish or Scottish.
A dash of Whisky or Brandy in coffee this time of year, always goes down well.
Hardly ever touch any of it though really tbh. Wouldn't want to make it a habit.
When we went to a Highlands distillery once, they were giving samples of one called Cardhu. Very nice but any bottles we've bought since haven't tasted quite as good as those samples.
Mr Eggy's 'Woodford Reserve Bourbon' is on sale in Tesco's atm for £20 down from £32.

Bulliett Bourbon Rye Whiskey is fantastic, great for a Manhattan or Old Fashioned. If you like bourbon then Buffalo Trace is always a good choice.

Depends what you like from Scotch but I really don't like Islay, too peaty for me. Speyside is good, well balanced and fruity.

As for gin it's got to be Hendricks or Beefeater (which used to be everywhere).

Rum might need its own thread.

In the minority I know but I cant stand the taste/smell of any whisky.

In fact not a fan of spirits in general although I dont mind a drop of Ouzo.

Any dark rum in winter (Barbadan if someone else is paying), Plymouth gin in the summer, a decent Grappa after a good meal, and never, ever, be without a bottle of Talisker.

(Apart from that, I never touch the stuff.)

Plantation Pineapple Rum. Its amazing, even if you don't normally like spirits. It's not for rum snobs, but it's ****ing rocking over ice with a bit of ginger.

"Proper" rum....i still haven't found one I like more than Zacapa Centenario 23 but I'm up for the challenge.

I got this to feed the Christmas cake to give it a nice flavour. I agree though it is great on its own or in a pineapple rum daiquiri.

I'll keep a lookout for this one, cheers.

Have you tried Pink Pigeon? More of a spiced rum, very smooth........

Highland Park or Dalwhhinnie would be my single malt choice. Always enjoyed a Bushmills or Jameson.
